Soccer Wildcats topple Durant, girls tie

Despite severely windy conditions last week, the Madill High School soccer teams opened the 2025 campaign at home with solid performances against Durant.

The Wildcats came away with a 6-2 victory while the youthful Lady Wildcats battled to a 0-0 tie facing a solid Durant squad.

Results weren’t as fortunate for either team in the rugged Classen Tournament in Oklahoma City as each squad suffered shutout defeats to strong programs before the final day of the event was canceled due to weather.

Both teams will be at home this week to close out the pre-Spring Break portion of the schedule. They hosted a tough Classen bunch on Tuesday and will remain at home when Class 5A Lawton High comes to Madill on Thursday night.

Facing Putnam City, Madill showed very positive signs with more aggressive offensive attacks although they were unable to connect with the back of the net. The Lady Pirates got a first half goal off a free kick and then allowed a pair in the second half with the defense trying to push ahead and aid the scoring attack.

“Overall, it was a good test for us to play against two strong teams from higher classifications,” Fitch added. “Weshowedglimpsesofwhat we can do but have a lot to work on. The improvement these young girls have made in such a short period of time is amazing.”
