Tuesday nights “Battle of the Shoe” had to be one of the most exciting and hard fought games ever in the series. The final score, after triple OT, Redskins fell 53 to 51 to their rival Wildcats.
Coach Bobby McAdoo and the Redskins came out hustling and fighting in the first. Brock Rummer, in perhaps his best game as a Redskin, carried the load on offensive end with two three pointers and a field goal. Reed Cason added a bucket and the Redskins took the lead to the second, 10 to 7.
Rumer kept the Redskins in the game with another eight-point effort. He had another three a two-point field goal and was 3 of 3 from the line. Cason had a big dunk inside. Parks Ratzlaff with a bucket helped the Redskins carry the lead to the locker room, 22 to 14.
Every quarter seemed to be a carbon copy of the previous one. Eli Oliger got into the scoring with two field goals. Sam Walker had a bucket. Drew Anderson was 2 of 2 from the line. The Redskins held the lead through three quarters, 30 to 22.
The three-point shot came into play in the fourth. Ratzlaff pitched in two and Hayden Seeny added one. Rumer was 2 of 2 from the line. Cason was 1 of 2. With 3:38 to play, the Redskins had the lead, 37 to 35. With the score at 40 all, neither team could break the ice. Regulation play ended in a tie.
The first overtime, Cason managed 2 of 2 from the line. After the Wildcats had taken the lead, Rumer hit another three pointer to tie the game again at 45 all.
The second overtime, Ratzlaff had another field goal. Walker, after a hard foul that resulted in a technical, was 1 of 2 from the line. Timeout Redskins with 1:40 to play and the lead at 48 to 45. Walker and Ratzlaff each were 1 of 2 from the line but the Wildcats were able to tie it up at 49 all.
The third overtime came and Ratzlaff, again, had a bucket to give the Redskins the lead at 51 to 49. Madill called a time out with 1:25 to play and the score still at 51 to 49. Walker was at the line with 5.7 seconds to play. Madill secured the rebound and hit a three as the buzzer sounded to win 53 to 51.
Box score: Rumer lead the team with 18. Ratzlaff had one of his best games on both ends of the court with 13, Cason with seven, Oliger had four, Seeney and Walker with three each and Anderson with two.
Lady Redskins v Lady Wildcats
The Lady Redskins fell to the Lady Wildcats of Madill on December 5 at Madill. The final score was 65 to 39. The Lady Redskins never led in this one.
The scoring started out “hard to come by” and continued for the entire game. The taller, stronger, faster Lady Wildcats dominated the inside and their post player would pop out behind the arc for three-point field goals. The Lady Redskins needed a time out at 4:32 with the score 7 to 0. Avery Ludrick broke the ice finally at 2:30 with the Lady Redskins’ first bucket. She was also 1 of 2 from the line. Jayda Foster and Cody Davis scored, Davis on a three pointer. The score after one quarter, 17 to 8.
Second quarter scoring was slightly better. Emily Bellettini had her first two buckets, and Ludrick had two more. Joley Heydon had a bucket and was 2 of 2 from the line. The Lady Wildcats were not slowing down and the score going to the halftime was 32 to 22.
In the third quarter, any hope of a comeback was soon dashed. Foster managed a bucket but was 0 for 3 from the line. Ludrick was 1 of 4 from the line. Olivia McAlister had a bucket. That was it for the scoring. Meanwhile, The Lady Wildcats put up 20 and now led 52 to 27.
Ludrick kept up the fight in the fourth with three more buckets. Bellettini had a bucket and two free throws. Carli Lilley had a bucket. The Lady Wildcats won this one coast to coast, 65 to 39.
Box score: Ludrick lead the team with 12 points, followed by Bellettini who had eight. Foster had six, Hayden and Davis each had three, McAlister and Lilley each with two. As a team, from the line, 6 of 13.
