Lone Grove too much for improved Lady Cats

Running into the defending state champs in the season opener is about as tough an assignment as you can get and that’s exactly what the Madill Lady Wildcats had Monday on the road.

Powerhouse Lone Grove scored six times in the first inning, but Madill held tough after that and settled into a solid battle before falling 10-0 in five stanzas.

Although they didn’t manage a hit in the contest, the Lady Wildcats definitely showed improvementfromayearago. Aubrey Orr and Layne Albright combined to allow just five earned runs and seven hits over five innings against the powerful Lady Longhorns. The Lone Grove pitching ace fanned 12 in five innings of work.

Fortunes should improve for Madill this weekend as they take part in the Pauls Valley Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The home opener with Byng is slated for next Monday.
