A former Madill pastor and his wife have passed away due to the COVID-19 illness. Reverends Clint and Marsha Purtell of Oklahoma City died just fifteen days apart of each other. Marsha died on November 15, 2020 and Clint died on November 30.

Reverend Clint was the pastor of the Madill First United Methodist Church when the new sanctuary was built in the mid to late 1960’s. Clint also served congregations in Coyle, Duncan – Wesley, Walters, Bristow, Henryetta, Freedom, Bartlesville – First, Oklahoma City – Asbury, Nowata and Lexington.

In 1980, the two ministers united in marriage and began to spend the next forty years sharing their life in spreading the gospel and love to all that came into contact with the couple. The Purtells served as missionaries in Central America and Israel for several years.

Reverend Marsha was involved with the Stephen Ministry, United Methodist Women’s groups, and also led a number of civic organizations. The Choctaw Nation native was also heavily supported by Indian Child Welfare and other tribal services – including being active in the Five Civilized Tribes of Oklahoma organization.

Reverend Marsha most recently served as a pastor at Tishomingo before moving to the Oklahoma City area to help with the care of her husband. Services for the couple were held recently.
