Coach Kyle Jessie’s youthladen Madill basketball team found its offensive shooting touch in its first two games last week but then went cold as they split four contests on the hardwood.
The Wildcats exploded late to pull away from Whitesboro, Texas by a 63-40 count and then dispatched Era, 62-41, in the Madill Winter Classic opener.Thingsgotmuchmore difficult with a 52-33 loss to Purcell and then an 82-44 verdict to powerful Dickson.
Madill concludes the current homestand on Tuesday facing off with Marshall County rival Kingston.
In the Whitesboro opener, Madill trailed 15-10 through one quarter before claiming the lead with a 14-6 second period flurry. Jaxon Diaz tossed in seven points in the third frame to make it a 3934 cushion going to the final stanza.
It was a Jagger Rogers 11-point explosion that was the highlight of the fourth as Madill poured in 24 points to pull away.
Rogers tied Ryan Anderson for game-high scoring honors with 15 points apiece while Diaz hit double figures as well with 12. Christian Smith contributed seven, Cash Cooper and Sammy Duran notched five apiece with Brayden Jowers also adding four points.
The Wildcats came out smoking hot from long range facing Era in the tournament opener as they connected on 10 treys before the halftime break for the majority of their 38 points. Madill was up 16-9 through one quarter and 38-30 at halftime behind a whopping six treys from Cooper. They finally put the Texans away in the fourth quarter thanks to a 14-2 blitz.
Cooper notched 26 points to lead all scorers with Rogers next in line with 10 points. Duran,JowersandAnderson all tallied six points, Diaz had four, Smith popped in three and Ibarra chipped in one.
Scoringwasmuchtougher to come by in the Purcell defeat although Rogers got off to a quick start with nine of Madill’s 12 points in the first period. The Dragons extended the margin to 36-19 at the break and maintained that advantage throughout the final two periods.
Rogers wrapped up with 13 points in leading the charge as Duran and Diaz posted six apiece. Anderson added five and Jowers scored three points.
The Dickson contest was close through one quarter with the Comets leading 12-8 after the first before exploding for at least 21 points in every period thereafter.
Cooperhadanotherstrong shooting performance with four treys and was the lone Wildcat in double figures with 19 points. Diaz notched eight, Smith had seven, Jowers scored six and Rogers and Ibarrabothfinishedwithtwo.
