The Madill High School girls golf team teed off at Dornick in Ardmore on March 29, 2021. Head Coach Jennifer Rushing said this was a difficult course.
“Dornick was much harder than previous courses,” Rushing said.
Kellanie Lowe had the lowest score for the team with 118. “With the wind, we corrected some positions we were in on each hole,” said Rushing. “I think our nerves had the best of us at the beginning but once we were on our third hole, we started hitting shots and placement of the ball improved.”
Belen Moreno shot 122; Abby Zang shot 127; Samantha Salinas shot 133; Jaelen Williams shot 137.
“We need to work on our greens and putting skills. Our long game is getting better but short game needs work,”
Rushing said. “We are a team that talks about what we did after each hole. They are each very positive for each other, cheering each other on trying to help to shake off any negative vibes.”
The high school boys played at John Marshall at the Cedar Valley Golf Club on April 1, 2021. Head Coach Adam Potter said the competition kept them on their toes.
“The competition at this tournament was higher than at Lake Murray,” Potter said. “There were several players from other teams that posted low 70s.”
The lowest score for the Wildcats was Ian Zang with 92. Greg Padgett shot 95. Brylan James had a 102. “Our top three players at this tournament scored five to seven strokes better each, but our fourth score was higher which brought our team score up five strokes,” said Potter. Colby Lambertsen shot
Colby Lambertsen shot 118 and Joshua Johnson shot 119. Potter noted that each hole progresses to the next.
“It’s very easy in golf to let a few bad holes carry over to the next ones,” said Potter. “I did take two different players to this tournament and was happy with their performance for their first high school golf tournament.”
