Kingston v Prague
The Redskins faced Prague on February 26, 2022 to start regionals, and won 63 to 46.
In the first quarter, Brady Brister got out to a fast start. His teammates fed offhis energy and responded. Brister had a three pointer and a two-point field goal. Braden Matchen had two field goals. Dakota Wiebener had a three pointer and Mason Burkhalter had a bucket.
The Prague coach wisely called timeout at the 4:50 mark because they were trailing, 7to0. Thetimeoutdidnot help, all. At 3:24, they were trailing 12 to 2. Redskins in control at the end of the quarter, 14 to 6.
The Redskin defense was one reason the Red Devils were in a bind. The front court ofReid Cason and Brister and Matchen made the inside buckets hard to come by. Often, the rebounds go to Burkhalter, and it was no different tonight. The much shorter Red Devils did not want inside.
In the second, Burkhalter, Wiebener and Tucker Rumer all had three pointers. Matchen and Cason both had buckets. The lead got to 20 to 8 before the Prague coach could get a time out. They were digging themselves a hole. The Redskins led 27 to 17 at the half.
Brister made sure there would be no second half collapse in this one. He got it started with a nice reverse layup underneath. The quarter had him with two more three-pointers and two more field goals. The Red Devils just could not stop him. Burkhalter had a bucket as did Cason. Cason was also 2 of2 from the line. The lead was 44 to 34 going to the fourth.
The fourth quarter proved to be exciting. It was not anything the Red Devils did themselves, it was their coach and fans. Having only lost three times on the season prior to this game, they were not happy. It was a very cool-headedofficial that kept from giving the coach a technical foul.
He was not having it from the fans, however. He stopped play long enough to send the Prague administration into the stands to retrieve the offenders. That took some time as the fan was upset about being ejected from the game. Several of his friends and family left after he was shown the door. Then, play resumed.
Brister and Burkhalter had the only buckets of the quarter. The Red Devils, however, went to a half-court defense and got a turnover. They mainly foule. Brister was on the receiving end of some of these fouls. He was 2 of 4 from the line. Matchen was 2 of 2.
Cason was 2 of 3 and Wiebener was 1 of 2. Yet, it was Burkhalter they repeatedly picked on. He responded by going 7 of 9. In fact, they continued to foul when the game was clearly out of reach. The Redskins win, 63 to 46.
Box score: Brister led the team with 20 points. Burkhalter was next with 16. Cason had nine, Matchen with eight, Wiebener with seven and Rumer with three. Also getting important minutes, were Gage Gill and Cole Morgan.
