A Bryan County man is facing charges after allegedly defrauding two homeowners in Bryant County. Nathan Sexton, 36, was hired to install septic systems in two homes.
According to court documents, Sexton defrauded the homeowners out of approximately $14,000, one in Bennington and the other in Bokchito.
One homeowner alleged that Sexton installed a septic system that had half of the capacity than what was paid for, knowing the system would fail. In the second case, it is alleged that he installed the system without the approval from the Department of Environmental Quality as required by law.
In a press release, the OK DEQ expressed their appreciation of the assistance they received.
'The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality wishes to express appreciation to Bryan County Sheriff Johnny Christian and District 19 District Attorney Tim Webster for their work in investigating and charging Bryan County resident, Nathan Sexton, with two felony charges of Obtaining Money by Trick or Deception,' the press release stated.
The press release also stated that Sexton is under investigation for more possible charges.
'Sexton is currently the subject of multiple DEQ administrative proceedings in Bryan and Marshall Counties for his repeated violations of state law and rules regarding the operation of an onsite septic installation and plumbingbusiness,'thepress release continued. 'DEQ’s investigation is ongoing, and more information will likely be available at a later date.'
OK DEQ outlined the danger of improperly installed septic systems. They say it could cause 'serious environmental implications such as raw and partially treated sewage in residential yards and sewage backing up into homes which could lead to exposure to serious diseases.'
The OK DEQ is asking for anybody who may have been defrauded by Sexton, to reach out. Customers who had a septic system installed by Sexton and are having issues with it, contact the DEQ at 800-522-0206 or reach out to the Bryan County Sheriff's Office at 580-924-3000.
