Garden club holds meeting

Linda Green presented a program entitled 'Caring for indoor plants during the longwintermonths'toMadill Rose Garden Club members on September 1 in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church of Madill. She said that people often ask, why do some indoor plants thrive and some planst die?'

Green said in 1967, her mother-in-law gave her a housewarming plant - an ivythat is still thriving today. If somebod takes care of their plants, they can survive for many years and thrive.

She discussed light, soil, water, temperature, and nutrients for house plants. Two points she made were that over-watering and putting plants in direct sunlight can cause inhibit a thriving plant. Nancy Kerr led the members inthePledgeofAlligance and The Aim. Becky inemire called roll using 'Favorite School Memory.' The devotion was given by Mary Jane Lowery using four excerpts from a devotional book.

She stated that when people plant bulbs, they do theplantinginhopeofbeautiful flowers in the spring. The gardeners anticipate that the bulbs will flourish and grow and when the flowers bloom, the gardener rejoices in God's joy in his display of nature.

Green announced that the South Central Garden Club's fall board meeting will be held in Shawnee on October 3. Members will be contacted as soon as more information becomes available. Contact Linda or Becky for more information.

Ninemire announced that a red rose was sent to Margaret Clark in memory of Rickey Clark. She said she spoke with the Madill City Library and a book will be ordered in memory of him.

Jayson Pruitt handed out clippings from his hoya and night cereus flower plants to the members who wished to plant them.

Green served sandwiches, fruit salad, chips, coffe cake and water to Doris Farris, Nancy Kerr, Mary Jane Lowery, Becky Ninemire, Judy Pakey, Susan Patton, Jason Pruitt, Sue Shilling anyd Jo Wood.
