Coming off a rough shorthanded week, the Madill Lady Wildcats returned back to nearly full strength last week and picked up two onthe-court victories as well as a forfeit.
Coach Carlos Humphrey’s squad got a forfeit from Ardmore, which didn’t have enough eligible players to compete, and then opened the Atoka Tournament with a 31-21 triumph over the host Wampus Cats while pulling away late.
They followed with a 35-24 semifinal victory over Durant to avenge an earlier season loss before the tournament finals was cancelled due to winter weather.
In the Atoka triumph, the Lady Wildcats held a slim 7-6 edge at the end of one stanza and 12-11 at intermission. It was still only a 23-21 advantage going to the fourthwhenMadillputonthe defensive clamps and threw a shutout in the final frame, scoring eight points to take the 10-point decision.
Lamiyah Brown topped a balanced attack with 10 points with Arlette Andrade close behind with nine. Allyson Coles scored four, Karma Williams added three, Chloe Miller had two and Jade Soto ended with a point.
It was the opening period that proved decisive against Durant as Madill raced to a 14-3 advantage fueled by 10 points from Brown alone. The Lady Wildcats were still ahead 17-10 at halftime and 22-15 before putting it completely on ice with a 13-7 fourth quarter push.
Brown exploded for 19 points in the Madill triumph which upped their record to 11-5 on the season. Miller tossed in six, Williams and Colespostedfourapiecewhile Andrade scored two.
The Wildcats are slated to be back at home Friday to face off with Calera in their next scheduled outing.
