Bat Allison and their 'Battle Scars'

Bat Allison, a rock group from San Antonio, Texas is gaining ground on the music scene. On July 7, they released their first album titled “Battle Scars.”

Thethree-piecepunkband formed in 2019, and released their first EP, “The Lizard Lounge Sessions,” during COVID19in2020.Theyhave garnered many awards in their short time of performing. Theirmusicvideo“Wake-Up” won an award at the Global Music Awards. They were nominated for Best Hard Rock Band by Radio Wigwam in 2022.

Bat Allison may be new, but their roots run deep with their 70s and 80s punk and rock influences.

The vocalist and bassist, Lynette Aleman, said that music has always been the flameshecouldneverquench. She fell into singing at a young age by staging family concerts. She was trained in Opera in college. She grew tired of always being the musical spectator and decided to start Bat Allison.

The guitarist, RJ Huston was self-taught by playing along with records when he was younger. He never pursued music due to his stage fright and lack of confidence until a friend heard him play and convinced him to try out foraband.Hehasplayedwith Highwire, The Steel Soldiers and even was a fill in for Even in Death.

Grant Turner, also known as “Shades”, had different aspirations before he was discovered. He was an aspiring jazz drummer who worked in his family’s appliance store when he was approached to be a drummer for a band called Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters. He toured with that band for a time and met other bands alongtheway.CaptainGeech split up after the members’ lives went in different directions.

Shadesreturnedhomeuntil he received the call to join Bat Allison. He was chosen outofapossible42drummers whoauditionedbecauseofhis senseofhumor,quickwitand classic good looks.

Their new album, “Battle Scars”, has nine rocking tunes. From “Coffee Shop” to “Wake up”, even with their rendition of the classic “I wanna be sedated,” fans will have no choice but to get up and jam along. The band is also excited to play their new songs for the thousands of fans at Rocklahaoma. The event this year will be in Pryor, Okla. from August 31 to September 3.
