Garden Club Convention held in Madill

Madill Rose Garden Club hosted the South-Central District Garden Club Convention on March 9 in the Fellowship Hall of the Madill Methodist Church. Clubs fromMarlow,Norman,Oklahoma City, and Madill were represented withthirty-three attendees.

Jo Wood prepared a breakfast bar with doughnuts, fruit salad, and sausage balls for the guests to enjoy before the morning meeting. Nancy Kerr provided the sausage balls.

Tables were decorated with white tablecloths with a bucket of yellow garden flowers in the center. The buckets were wrapped at the bottom with a wine-colored cloth.

Mary Jane Lowery gave a Welcome to Madill presentation. Attendees recited the Pledge of Allegiance, Oklahoma Flag Salute, The ConservationPledgeandThe Gardener’s Creed in unison. BettieCooperofferedaprayer for the meeting.

A short executive board meeting was held with a slate of officers nominated. Morning Session was the spring business meeting. Several reports were given by members, state officers, and district officers. Each club president in attendance presented a short report of their club activities.

A luncheon was prepared by Sandra Sweeney which included beef stew, hoagies, a selection of desserts, tea, coffee, and water.

After lunch, a memorial service was held with two former members remembered in short presentations. Mary Jane Lowery honored her mother, Mary Lois Jones, who we lost in January of this year, telling the group that her mother had been a member for forty one years.

An election of officers for 2023-2025 was held with Jo Wood, of Kingston, being elected South-Central District President and Judy Parkey, of Madill, Vice President.

Bettie Cooper invited everyone to the Oklahoma Garden Club State Convention in Oklahoma City on April 17 and 18. A fall board meeting will be held with either Norman and Marlow the destination point.

A silent auction was held to raise money for the Oklahoma State Garden Club Convention expenses. There were many great conversations over items donated. Thank you to everyone who donated.
