Wildcats return for Homecoming tilt on Friday

Following a tough road loss last week, the Madill Wildcats hope to pick up some positive momentum this Friday when they host Harrah for Homecoming at Blake Smiley Stadium.

Weekend activities are slated to get started on Thursday night with a community pep rally at the stadium beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The Wildcats are coming off a tough 48-0 loss at Chickasha in which everything that could conceivably go wrong did go wrong for Madill.

It started with a fumble on thefirstplayfromscrimmage that Chickasha scooped up andreturnedforatouchdown and immediate 7-0 lead.

The Fighting Chicks added another defensive score on an interception return to paydirt, whichwasthesecond of three Wildcat turnovers on the night.

“We never could get much going,” head coach Wade Couch commented. “We fumbled the first offensive play and they took it in for six. That’s kind of the way it went all night. It was an inconsistent evening in all phases of the game. All three turnovers led to touchdowns for them. We really didn’t have anybody that had a very good evening overall. It was a struggle.”

With Harrah coming to town on Friday, the Wildcats will face another big challenge against a team that the Wildcat head coach believes may be the second-best squad in District 4A-2.

The Panthers have displayed their prowess with a 5-2 overall record and current three-game winning streak that included a wild 45-43 victory over Bethany last week.

“We still have a few guys out with injuries but our numbers are improving,” Couch said. “The bad news is we had another player go down with a concussion last weekthatwemaybewithout. It’s always exciting during Homecoming week though. There are all kinds of fun things involved, and the kids are looking forward to it.

“Harrah has an awfully good team. I’ve been very impressedwithwhatI’veseen of them. They are probably the second-best team in our district overall in my opinion. They have the complete package. It’s going to be a big challenge for us.”
