Two out of three ain’t bad for Lady Wildcats

The Madill Lady Wildcats won two of three games at the Calera Tournament August 16 and 17.

The squad opened the tournament with a resounding 13 to 1 victory over Coleman.

Statistics for this game were not available at press time.

The Lady Wildcats returned to action the afternoon of August 16. This time a matchup with the Bennington Lady Bears loomed.

Alexus Gibson started for Bennington and immediately frustrated the Lady Wildcats’ htiters.

The first three Madill batters (Emilie Johnson, Ximena Gomez and Mackenzie Reed) either lined out or grounded out in short order.

As the visiting team, Madill’s defense took the field in the bottom of the first inning. They lined with Maryn Mancini as the starting pitcher.

Mancini also had a one, two, three inning as sent the first three Bennington batters back to their bench.

In the top of the second inning, Gibson continued where she left off by retiriring Madill’s Mia Beason, Krslynn Anderson and Abbey Tiernan.

Bennington was the first get on base after both Atwood and Witt singled in the bottom of the second inning.

Witt was the first score on a passed ball.

However, the Lady Wildcats were able to recover and hold the damage to only one run.

Madill’s Peyton Arnold was walked to start the top of the third inning. Jaeda Townsend moved Arnold to second base with sacrifice ground out to first.

The next batter, Cheyenne Lansdale doubled to center to score Arnold. Lansdale’s hit tied the game at one apiece.

The Lady Wildcats celebrations were short lived as

Bennington’s Lily Cordell reached first base on a misfielded grounder to third base. Cordell would later steal second base.

Then, Cheyenne Miller walked. A single by catcher Megan Rudder scored both runners bringing the score to Bennington 3, Madill 1.

Madill fought back quickly to start the fourth inning.

First baseman Mackenzie Reed smoked a liner down the left field line. Reed turned on the jets to get an inside the park home run to make the score Bennington 3, Madill 2.

Unfortunately, the Lady Wildcats could not add to their tally in the fourth.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Wildcats got a highlight in the form of catcher Mia Beason’s catching a Bennington runner trying to steal second to end the inning.

Bennington added their final run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Cordell was hit by a pitch, stole second and later scored on a throwing error.

This would complete Bennington’s victory over Madill by a score of 4 to 2.

The Lady Wildcats were able to quickly avenge their loss with a 5 to 3 win over Turner on August 17. Neither a line score nor a box score was available as of press time.

On the road again

Madill went to Chickasha for a pair of games against the host Lady Chicks on August 19.

The Lady Wildcats dropped the first game by a score of 13 to 8. Then, the hosts turned on the heat with a 19 to 0 victory in the second game.
