The US Junior Open Championship has been one of the nation’s premier youth wrestling tournaments for five decades according to its host organization, the CentralOklahomaWrestling Association.
Sarabia, of Madill, defeated his competitors to win gold and his new championship ring securing three pins in four matches. This is an achievement considering Sarabia is a true light heavyweight at 5’7” and 215 lbs vs competition at 285 lbs. His record is as follows:

• Major Decision (3-1) against Alex Hercules, Elgin Wrestling Sarabia said he didn’t let the fact that some of his competitors were more than 50 lbs. heavier and one who was also 10 inches taller.
“I just think of David and Goliath,” he said cheekily.” Fortunately for me, we all bleed the same way on the mat.”
“Alex executed his positions with the agility and technique of a D1 wrestler,” CoachPeterHammerchimed in. “He’s always super fun to watch, especially against an elite field.”
“That’s true. Alex is a heavyweight who wrestles like a lighter weight, but moves like a collegiate athlete,” added Coach Roger Frizzell, 4x NCAA All-American and National Wrestling Hall of Famer.
