Madill girls 2nd, boys 4th at Ardmore tourney

Madill wrestlers garnered a host of individual placers as the Lady Wildcats claimed second as a team and the Wildcats fourth in the Ardmore Invitational last week.

On the girls’ side, Madill had three titlists along with a pair of runner-up efforts on the way to the second place finish in the standings. Two others wrapped up third.

Leading that charge was freshman Samantha Ortiz at 110 pounds as she recorded four victories, including three by fall. She pinned Bostyn Larkin of Ardmore in 56 seconds, Dickson’s Payton Benner in 49 seconds and HaileyRobertsfromCoalgate at the 1:57 mark. The other triumph was a 5-0 decision over Comanche’s Kaylie Jackson.

Mekayla Westbrook was the champion of the 155/170 division with a trio of first period falls. She stopped Zoe Payes from Comanche in 39 seconds, Skila Zepeda of LoneGrovein25secondsand Dickson’s Camarie Johnson only 44 seconds into the match.

Angelina Mendiola took home the 235-pound crown by winning a best-of-three series with Mya Padilla of Comanche. The Lady Wildcat grappler was on the short end of 3:43 fall verdict but notched a pair of pin victories in 87 and 90 seconds respectively.

Lexi Willis tallied a second place showing at 105 pounds riding a 1:17 fall win against Ardmore’s Marlie Good and Madelyn Ritchie added a runner-up in the 190-pound division by picking up a 1:14 fall win over Georgia Chambers from Lone Grove and 2:28 against Coalgate’s Chellye Barnett. Ashlyn Bridenstine posted a third at 115 pounds as did Hannah Pruitt at 120.

A pair of Wildcats spurred the boys’ competitors as Aroddy Camacho and Brayden Valles each posted runner-up showings at 144 and 152 pounds respectively.

Camacho reeled off an 11-7 decision versus Kayton Smith of Comanche and a 1:22 fall verdict facing Randon Vermillion from Altus. Valles meanwhile cruised through his first three matches to the final round, including a 13-0 major decision over Lone Grove’s Nathan Dobbs, a 1:27 fall win against Creek McCoy of Coalgate and a 16-6 major decision against McAlester’s Lee Moore.

Dayton Gimenez also recorded three triumphs at 126 pounds in a third place finish all three of which came via falls. He dispatched Kaiden McKinley Memorial in 2:21, Altus’ Roel Matos at 2:08 and McAlester’s Case Thompson in an even 60 seconds.

Xavier Diaz had a similar accomplishment for third at 190 pounds needing just 16 seconds to drop Jacob Clinkenbeard from Duncan along with Ardmore’s David Moody in 4:42 and Ma’Harri Young of Altus at 5:03.

Braxton Gimenez tallied two wins in four matches to claim third in the 113-pound division, dropping Kagen WhiteofComancheinan11-6 decision as well as Edmond Memorial’s Kaze Mujica for a fall at 2:40.

Jackson Harper and RamiroRangeleachrecorded two wins at 138 pounds and heavyweightrespectivelybut fell just short of placing. Dago Gonzalez (heavyweight), Tyner Roberts (165 pounds) and Xavier Quintanilla (132 pounds) all finished with one victory in the tournament.
