Madill drops district opener to Broken Bow

MadillhostedBrokenBow on September 22 for their Homecoming game. They kicked off the game with a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem sung by Codie Shaw with a perfectly timed flyover by a large flock of southbound birds.

Madill won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball, but Broken Bow was the first to put points on the board after scoring a touchdown and kicking for a successful extra point. Madill stayed hot on their heels with an amazing 57-yard-pass thrown by Eli Vinson and caught by Caden McHatton for a touchdown. Topped off with a successful kick, Madill tied it up, 7-7.

Miguel Fajardo intercepted a pass giving the Wildcats possession of the ball. They attempted a kick to pull ahead, but it was no good.

Many fans shouted out their dislike for the game officials.

“The refs are being very generous to Broken Bow,” they chanted.

The second quarter kicked off with a bang with Broken Bow scoring another touchdown and successful kick. Madill kept possession of the ball and made good progress moving it down the field for several successful first downs. An unfortunate fumble led to a Broken Bow recovery.

With 3:09 left on the clock, Broken Bow put another seven points on the board. Vinson threw another touchdown pass for the Wildcats bringing the score to 21-14. Madill recovered the ball after a Broken Bow fumble with 37.4 seconds left on the clock. Madill took a knee to end the half.

Halftime was a lively af- fair kicked off with a dance routine from the Madill Cheer squad dancing to “Pon de Replay” by Rihanna. The Broken Bow band performed their award winning routine. Their flag troupe stood out in pastel rainbow leotard with a pink half skirt and no less than three flag changes.

Madill’s Medley of Elvis tunes was the highlight of the show. It is always an impressive sight to see the Wildcat Marching Band fill the field. The flag troupe also featured a few flag changes while looking sleek in their all black leotards and matching leg mums.

The second half started a bit slow. Willie the Wildcat helped keep spirits high with his enthusiastic participation in the cheers. He also took some time to high five “young ‘uns” down by the fence.

Broken Bow scored another touchdown and things started to get a little feisty on the field prompting a flag forunsportsmanlikeconduct. The score was 28-14 going into the fourth quarter.

Vinson is a name all the Madill fans heard all night and heard again after throwing a 17-yard return. A bit later, he suffered an injury while recovering a fumble. A true Wildcat hero.

A small tussle resulted in anotherflagandsomegained yardsforMadill.BrokenBow face masked Madill resulting in another flag and a first down in 10 for the Wildcats.

Another offside gained them five more yards and put them on the five-yard line. Luis Rodriguez had the carry to the two-yard line and then set up for another play –touchdown, Rodriguez. Successful kick by Uziel Flores brought the score 28-21.

After a touchback to Madill, they had a beautiful but incomplete pass down the field. A man in the stands shouted his disappointment.

“That was pass interference,” he yelled.

The refs seemed to not hear him. Broken Bow took a knee to run down the clock and won the game with the final score 28-21.
