It was a highly successful start to the season for the Madill wrestling team last week as they cruised past Lone Grove in both high school and junior high competition.
The varsity Wildcats scored a 58-21 triumph with the junior high squad notching a 54-18 verdict. In addition, the Madill girls had several winners while the host Wildcats posted a 3-2 record in exhibition matches.
Coach Austin Pettigrew’s troops will be back on the mat for a road dual on Thursday at Davis before traveling to the rugged Carrollton, Texas tournament the following two days.
In the high school dual, Madill dominated the mat in the lower weight divisions as they scored five straight wins to get things rolling.
Blaze Greenwood was credited with a forfeit at 106 pounds and Braxton Gimenez followed by pinning Miguel Lopez in 1:40 at 113. Darian Perez notched a forfeit triumph and Dayton Gimenez pushed the Wildcat advantage to 30-0 with a 4:21 fall victory over Deremy Gray along with a Brayden Valles 2:57 pin of Nathan Dobbs at 132 pounds.
After dropping consecutive decisions at 138 and 144 pounds, Madill answered with Aroddy Camacho stopping CobyHortonforatechnical fall at 150 pounds.
Tyner Roberts added to the lead by pinning J.P. Bodo De Mattos in just 1:04 of the opening period in the 165-pound category. Xavier Diaz needed only 47 seconds to dispatch Caden Oldham by fall at 190 to maintain the comfortable lead.
Alex Sarabia finished things off with an 11-2 major decision against Anden Rhynes at heavyweight.
Madill’s junior high grapplers
got off to quick starts with Adrian Colescott and Teo Barrientos credited with forfeits at 80 and 92 pounds.
Damien Trejo scored a 1:03 fall victory at 119 to help keep the dual knotted at 18 through the 126-pound division.
That’s when things completely swung the Wildcats wayastheyrecordedvictories in the final six contests.
KarlKing,StevenMoreno, Jacob Valles, Rodrigo Cruces and Dago Gonzales all posted pin fall triumphs and Jaxon Klutinis captured a forfeit win.
Although they didn’t have enough competitors for a full dual, the Lady Wildcats had severalstrongoutingsintheir first dual of the season.
On the high school side, Hannah Pruitt pinned Lone Grove’s Alyssa Williams at 120 pounds, Kaydence Bourland
toppled Skila Zepeda at 145 and Madill’s Madison Barrow was a fall victor over Georgia Chambers at 190 pounds.
The junior girls had six winners as Samantha Ortiz (110 pounds), Addyson Westbrook (117), Brissa Reyes (126), Johana Gonzalez (145) and Maylin Narvaez (190) each posted pin fall triumphs and Nora Laird was a technical fall victor at 96 pounds.
Exhibition match victories for the Wildcats came from Marco Espinoza, Gunner Cain and Marcos Martinez, with each scoring pin fall decisions..
