Madill baseball shares two in Tishomingo tourney

Following a pair of rough district losses to start the week, Madill’s high school baseball squad rebounded to split two contests in the rain-shortened Tribe Classic in Tishomingo.

The Wildcats were blitzed by powerhouse Newcastle, 19-3 and 15-0, in the league outingsandthenwerenipped 8-7 by Minco to begin the tournament. They answered with a 10-0 triumph over Wapanucka for the squad’s second win of the season.

Madill held a 4-0 edge in the third inning of the Minco contest but watched the Bulldogs score three straight to answer as the Wildcats struggled defensively to yield four unearned runs.

CooperMcHattonandKris Grimaldo notched singles to lead to a single run in the second frame and it was four free passes sandwiched around a Landon Burgess single in the third to tally three runs.

The Wildcats finished the game with seven hits, all coming on singles, with Burgess contributing two of those. McHatton, Grimaldo, Brayden Jowers, Tyner Roberts and Tucker Neeley chipped in one hit apiece.

Mikal Pruitt tossed the first four and one-third frames on the mound, scattering 10hits,withMcHatton adding two and one-third stanzas with just one earned run on two hits. He also struck out a pair.

Madill broke a scoreless deadlock in the second inning facing Wapanucka, plating a pair of runs on a two-out single from Neeley.

They broke things wide open with a five-run eruption just two frames later. McHatton, Pruitt and Burgess strung together three straight one-out doubles. Jowers, Roberts, Daquan Williams and Neeley all contributed singles before the big flurry was completed.

Roberson, Neeley and MichaelCrampeachfinished with two hits to fuel the 11-hit charge. McHatton, Pruitt, Burgess, Jowers and Williamstossedinoneapiece.

McHatton was stellar on the mound, firing a complete game no-hitter as he struck out seven and walked three.
