The Madill Lady Wildcats put together one of their best offensive performances of the fall season last week but were unable to hold off a late charge by Thackerville in a wild 11-10 non-district softball loss.
That proved to be the only action of the week before business picks up emphatically this week with a pair of contests early against Ardmore before a matchup with Marshall County rival Kingston on the road Thursday evening.
Madill pounded out 10 hits, including four for extra bases but could never sustain a lead in the back-and-forth affair with Thackerville, which plated four runs in the top of the first stanza to go in front.
The Lady Wildcats countered with a tally in its half of the first when Aubrey Orr reached on an error and came around to score on a Jade Soto single. Thackerville got that run back in the second frame and added two more in the third to go up 7-1 before the Madill comeback began.
Coach Shawn Runyan’s unit answered with three tallies in the third as Tillie Chapa’s triple with the bases loadedprovedtobetheteam’s only hit following an error and a pair of walks.
Reliever Layne Albright blanked Thackerville in the top of the fourth and Madill responded by plating four runs to go in front for the first time at 8-7.
Lana Wigington jump started the uprising with a triple to right and came in to score on Kinsley Troxtell’s two-out single, which began a flurry of Lady Wildcat hits. Chloe Miller singled, Karma Williams doubled to score two and tie the contest while Chapa followed with an RBI single for the lead.
It was a short-lived advantage with Thackerville responding by scoring three times, but Madill answered with two of its own to knot the score at 10 through five stanzas. Troxtell contributed the two-out, two-run base hit that tied things again.
Following a scoreless sixth inning, Thackerville plated one in the seventh and Madill was unable to counter, leaving the tying run at first base.
Chapa finished with two hits and drove in four while Troxtell notched a pair of hits and three RBI. Wigington, Soto, Miller, Williams, Albright andLeightonClement all had one hit apiece.
