Lady Redskins v OCA

The 10:00 a.m. start is not the game to draw after a 2 1/2 hour bus trip to get to the tournament. The Lady Redskins must have been road weary at the beginning of the game against Oklahoma Christian Academy. Somewhere around the middle of the second quarter, the Lady Redskins woke up “from a long winter nap.” However, by then they were in a deep hole and could not bounce back. Ladies lose this one 57 to 4.

In the first quarter, Olivia Quapaw, Raegan Davis and Emily Bellettini all had a bucket. That was all the scoring they could muster. Meanwhile, OCA was having a field “goal” day. At the buzzer the score, 18 to 6, a 12-point deficit.

OCA had a well-balanced lineup. Their center was well north of six feet tall. She was not the only tall one on the team. The guard play was excellent. They were dead eye shooters. So the “inside, outside” game was going well for them.

In the second quarter, Quapaw was 2 of 2 from the line. Davis and Bellettini again added field goals. However, this quarter, Jaci Herndon was good for 3 of 4 from the line and Kamry Bohannon had a bucket. The score going to the dressing room was 34 to 17, advantage OCA.

Bohannon was busy in the third. She had a bucket underneath and was fouled. She managed 3 of 4 from the stripe. Bellettini scored inside and was 2 of 3 on free throws. Quapaw hit a long three. Davis had a bucket and a free throw. The fifteen-point quarter was the best of the day, they still trailed 44 to 32.

The ladies figured out how to catch up with little time left in the game. Quapaw had 2 three-pointers. Bohannon had a three, as did Kaya Wiebener. Wiebener also had a two-point field goal. At the 3:19 mark, the Lady Redskins had cut the margin to 9, 49 to 40. Quapaws three cut it to seven with 1:56 to go. Forced to foul, OCA was able to finish it out. Final score, 57 to 46.

Box score: Quapaw lead the team with 13 points, Bohannon was right behind her with 10. Bellettini had eight and Davis added seven. Wiebener had five, all in the last quarter. Herndon was 3 of 4 from the line. Free throws for the team, 11 of 17 for 65%. No free throw attempts in the fourth quarter.
