Coach Shawn Runyan’s Madill Lady Wildcat softball team notched one victory in four tough contests in their own festival last week.
The Lady Wildcats fell to Colbert (13-4), Broken Bow (14-6) and Marietta (9-7) aheadofan11-10winagainst Thackerville to improve to 6-10 on the season.
Madill will be at Bethel this week for Class 5A district tournament action.
The hosts took an early 2-0 lead against Colbert, cashing in a pair of errors and an Ireland Groeber single. Colbert however answered with four in it’s half of the opening stanza and put the contest away with six in the fourth.
Brooklynn Washington, Groeber and Chloe Miller each tallied two of the club’s eight hits in the contest.
Broken Bow put the second game away immediately with eight runs in the top of the first frame although each team finished with an identical 10 hits. Madill however was hurt by eight errors.
Washington again led the charge with three of the hits while Laila Pickens contributed a single and double with three RBI as Ana Pineda also chipped in a pair of hits.
The Lady Wildcats were playing catch up throughout the Marietta game, including scoring three times in their final at bat but finished just short in the rally bid in spite of final frame singles by Washington, Joshlynn Clayburn, Groeber and Karmony Pearson.
Pickens paced the offensive attack with two hits, including a double, but Jade Soto homered and drove in three as well.
Madill raced to a sevenrun first inning to take early command against Thackerville before having to hold on down the stretch.
Washington and Pickens got the early barrage started with hits but it was a string of two-out singles from Ashlynn Bridenstine, Luci Douglas and Dahlia Marris that did most of the damage. Groeber’s two-run double proved tobethekeyhitinwhatended up being a decisive four-run fourth frame flurry.
Bridenstine finished with a team-high two hits with one apiece coming from Marris, Washington, Pickens, Clayburn, Groeber, Tillie Chapa and Douglas.
