Lady Cat streak continues; Boys top Plainview

The Madill girls winning streak reached nine and the boys notched one victory in three contests against rugged competition last week as the basketball season headed toward the playoffs.

Coach Carlos Humphrey’s squad remained hot, although they needed late surges in each contest to topple Plainview (46-35), Byng (34-31) and Sulphur (37-26) to improve to 17-5 on the season.

The Wildcats outgunned Plainview (75-54) but came up short against talented Byng (71-62) and Sulphur (59-50) squads.

Madill visits Ada for the Class 4A district playoffs on Saturday night.

It was much the same in the final stanza with Brown pouring in 10 to help Madill pull away.

Boys

Despite a slow start it was a hot finish for the Wildcats as they exploded over the final two stanzas to blow past Plainview.

Madill trailed 21-13 after one period and was still down 33-31 at intermission before erupting with a plethora of three pointers. They outscored the Indians 22-11 in the third quarter and 22-10 in the fourth.

Four Wildcats got in on the three-point barrage and reached double figures for the game led by Sammy Duran’s 17 points. Cash Cooper and Jagger Rogers tossed in 14 apiece while Brayden Jowers contributed 13 points.

Madill hung tough throughout against Byng as Cooper sizzled for five treys and popped in 14 points himself of the Wildcats’ 22 in the third stanza. In the end though, a 15-9 Pirate scoring run in the final frame put away the victory.

Cooper posted 21 points and Jowers added 18 in sparking the Madill charge. Rogers scored nine and Christian Smith finished with seven.

The Wildcats dug a similar early hole against Sulphur before rallying with a 21-point final stanza but the comeback fell short.
