On February 17, the Madill boys basketball team won the Lake Country Conference championship in the 2019-20 season. They finished the regular season with an overall record of 18-5. This is the Madill boys team’s first LCC title since 2013. The Murray State College Women’s Basketball Team went on the road Monday, February 17 to take on NOC-Tonkawa looking to win their ninth straight regional game and 10th straight game overall. In previous matchups, the Aggies have won one game and lost one versus the Mavericks in each of the past three years. After a convincing 92-67 home win over NOC-Tonkawa on January 16, Murray State entered the game looking to complete the sweep of the Mavericks this season and continue to battle for a top spot in the region.
After a slow start for both teams, the Aggies pulled ahead to lead 13-to-six at the end the first quarter. Both teams strung together several offensive scoring runs, with the Aggies pulling ahead 38-30 at halftime. Murray State, who had five players score in double digits in the game, began pulling away late in the third quarter on their way to a 89-65 win. Freshman Jillian Ingram led the Aggies in scoring with 15 points, followed by Alaijah Stewart with 14 points, and sophomore Kes Reeves and freshman Macy Smith each had 13 points. Sophomore Andressa Nascimento had a double-double in the game with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Overall, the Aggies shot just over 42 percent from the field, had 17 three-point baskets and were a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line on their way to winning their 10th straight game. The win improved their record to nine wins and four losses in regional play and 18-and-nine overall.
The Aggies then traveled to Miami to take on Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, February 20. The teams were evenly matched through much of the first half, with the Lady Norse holding a four-point lead after the first 15 minutes, before the Aggies rallied to cut the lead to one point at the end of the first half. The second half continued to be a back-and-forth battle, with the Aggies and Norse going into the final 15 minutes of the game tied at 48 points before both teams held the other to just 13 points in the final quarter. Unable to break the deadlock, the teams ended regulation tied at 61 points apiece before Northeastern Oklahoma A&M quickly regained the lead early in overtime on their way to a 67-63 win over the Aggies.
Murray State was led in scoring by Stewart with 19 points and sophomore Randaysha Hansen with 15 points. Madison Roberson led the Aggies with 14 rebounds and three steals and contributed five points in the loss.
The Aggies will play their final home game of the season on Monday, February 24 versus Northern Oklahoma College-Enid before going on the road February 27 to take on Connors State College in their final game of the regular season.
