The Kingston Lady Redskins Cross Country team opened up the season at Madill City Lake on Saturday, September 2. Avery Ludrick placed 10th out of 78 runners with a time of 14:41; Addi Cole, Cassie McAlister, Olivia McAlister, Emily Backenstoes, Ava Reno, Tabitha Arnold, and Maysie Clark all came in places 12th, 16th, 32nd, 40th, 42nd, 49th, 56th, taking second place overall as a team.
Ludrick said she was nervous at first, but then was focused.
“Atfirst,Iwasnervousasa freshmanrunningwithmany talented runners, but as soon as the gun went off, my mind just focused on running my best race,” she said. “I hope to qualify for State and be a good example for my fellow teammates.”
Freshmen Cassie and Olivia McAlister said that they felt prepared for their first meet, and the first race was a time to work on having more confidence and endurance.
The Kingston Redskins Cross Country team also attended the meet at Madill City Lake on Saturday, September 2. It was a photo finish for the boys as Ryan came in 29th with a time of 19:28 with Cash quickly following, placing 31st out of 112 runners. Ryan Anderson saideventhoughhistimewas slower than usual, he’s determined to improve his speed.
“This meet will be my slowest time of the year. I am determined to finish under 18 minutes and continue to improve throughout the season.”
The Kingston Middle School girls and boys were also in attendance. The girls 2400 meter run consisted of 115 runners with Brinlee Roberts being the first to cross the finish line for KMS in 16th place. The middle school Lady Redskins placed fourth overall with an average time of 11:51. The boys 3200 meter run consisted of 120 runners with Chet Nix being the first to cross the finish line for Kingston in 14th place with a time of 14:00.
