The Redskins returned to conference play on January 10 with a match up with the MariettaIndians. heIndians, who at 11-2 are having a nice year. They were on a sevengame win streak, having last lost in the Madill Winter Classic. This looked to be a good match up.
First quarter action had ConnerBristerandRJWeeks leading the way. Redskins lead was 24 to 18 at the buzzer and Marietta was hanging tough. Brister was hot from beyond the arc with three three pointers and a powerful dunk.
Second period, Jacob Germany began to control the inside with seven points and several rebounds. With the defense locked down, Redskins added 20 points while holding the Indians to 8. The lead at the break was 44 to 26.
Third quarter was much the same with the Redskins running off 20 points while only allowing six.Germanywasleadingthe wayoutscoringtheIndiansby himself. He had seven in the period. The lead was doubled up, 64 to 32.
Fourth quarter had good minutes from the bench. Tucker Rumer and Dakota Weibner had nice three-point buckets. At the buzzer it was all Redskins, 74 to 41.
Scoring on the night: Germany and Weeks each with 16. They were followed closelybyConnerBristerwho had 15. Rylee Holmes added five, and Jacob Whipkey had four.
Redskins v Longhorns
Coach Bobby McAdoo and his Redskins got another Lake Country Conference win over the Lone Grove Longhorns. The final score for the January 13 game was 50 to 30.
In the first quarter, the Redskins looked to be comfortable to play an inside out game with Reid Cason at the high post. At 6’8”, and an even longer wing span, he is easy to hit. He can hold the ball over the defense and direct it from there. It is also a great way to see that he handles it every trip down on offense. The last few weeks he has discovered that if he can drive to the bucket from the top of the key he gets a bucket or a trip to the line.
Cash Walker was good for five points in the quarter. He had a bucket and was 3 of 4 from the line. Brock Rumer had a nice three to keep help keep things close. Cason was 1 of 2 from the line. Redskins were trailing 11 to 9 after one.
The second quarter had the Redskins began to exert themselves offensively thru Cason. He responded with drives, dunks and blocked shots on the other end. The Horns had no answer.
He had three buckets and was 3 of 3 from the line. Drew Anderson had a long three pointer. And Eli Oliger had a bucket. The Redskins headed to the lockers leading 23 to 16.
In the third, Cason came out of the dressing room on fire. Another dunk, two more field goals, and 2 of 2 from the line. Parks Ratzloff had a bucket. The Redskins were now in control and in the lead, 33 to 23.
Cason had dunk and two more field goals. He was also five of six from the line. Rumer hit another three. Walker had a bucket. With time running out in the game andbothbenchesinthegame, a skirmish happened right in front of the Redskins’ bench. Rumer and the Lone Grove player were on the floor after the ball when the Longhorn decided to come up swinging. After everyone calmed down, the officials met and awarded graciously a technical foul to the Longhorn player. Rumer hit 1 of 2 and the game was over. Redskins won, by 20, 50 to 30.
Box score: Reid Cason lead the Redskins with 29 points. This included three dunks, three block shots and many rebounds. He was 11 of 13 from the free throw line. Rumer and Walker each had seven points. Anderson with three and Oliger with two.
