Going into the season with high aspirations, the Kingston Redskins open the 2025 football campaign Friday at 7 p.m. with their only home contest of the non-district schedule when they face Madill in the Annual Marshall County Super Bowl.
The Redskins are coming off a solid showing in their lone tune-up when they scrimmaged Holdenville, Idabel and Antlers last week.
Head coach Brad Hill was pleased with the Redskins’ effort, but admitted they definitely saw some things in which they needed to continue working on.
“We faced three different opponents and did some really good things,” he commented. “We felt good about how we moved the football. We fumbled once, but for the most part we were pleased with how the offense performed against all three.
“Our defense looked good against Idabel and Antlers. Holdenville exposed us a little with their single wing offense. It’s an offense that is tough without preparing for and they hit us in the mouth pretty good. I think our kids and coaches took that seriously and we have been working hard in practice this week to tighten some things up on that side.”
The Redskins hope to begin another playoff campaign victoriously, but are well aware of the series between the teams in which virtually anything can happen even though they have won the last two meetings including 35-7 a year ago.
Two of the past four contests have been one-point affairs with the teams splitting those matchups.
“Madill is going to provide a mental and physical challenge for us,” Hill said. “They line up unbalanced and we are going to have to know whoisaneligiblereceiverand who is not. They play with a lot of energy and have a good quarterback and shifty backs in the backfield. They almost always have eight defenders in the box so we are going to have to throw and catch the ball well. That type of defense is difficult to prepare for and we are going to have to make sure to read our keys correctly. We are expecting a lot of misdirection so it’s going to be a challenge for sure.
“This is going to be good for us because we are going to see some good power running teams and odd stack teams, including Kiefer, down the road. It’s a good measuring stickbecauseHoldenvillewas apowerrunningteamaswell. We feel like this will benefit us in getting ready for that first district game in three weeks against Kiefer.”
