The Kingston Redskins had to go on the road for district basketball action last Saturday but managed to come up with victories in advancing to the winner’s bracket of the Class 3A regional this week.

Kingston’s girls were 3530 victors at Atoka while the Redskins cruised to a 58-37 upset win in the nightcap for its district crown.

Girls

Freshman Avery Ludrick tossed in a team-high five points during an early 11-4 first quarter burst by the Lady Redskins.

Kingston maintained that edge to 19-12 at halftime but managed only three points in the third stanza. Coach Chad Rumer’s club however held Atoka to just seven as well and they were still able to carry a 22-19 advantage into the final frame.

Although the percentage wasn’t great, the Lady Redskins sank just enough free throws (5 of 12) in the fourth to hold the Lady Cats at bay. Joley Heydon also contributed three baskets and seven total points in the quarter to key the Kingston attack.

Ludrick wrapped up the contest with 13 points and Heydon scored 12 to pace the Lady Redskin offense. Jayda Foster pumped in five, Emily Bellettini had three and Cassiday Walker scored two.

Boys

The size of senior stalwart Reid Cason and eight three pointers from the perimeter proved to be too much of a one-two punch as Kingston rolled past the 15th rated Wampus Cats.

Kingston began to assert itself in the opening stanza, outscoring Atoka by a 15-8 margin thanks to a pair of Brock Rumer treys as well as one from Hayden Seeney.

Cason poured in eight points in the second frame and Rumer and Seeney connected from downtown once more for a 31-19 halftime cushion. A 14-4 scoring cushion in the third period with Lander Burkhalter adding a pair of three pointers turned it into a surprising blowout.

The Redskins improved to 14-10 on the season and were led by Cason’s 21 points and 13 rebounds. Rumer also reached double figures with 14.

Burkhalter notched eight, Sam Walker scored seven, Seeney added six with Ewan Weaver rounding things out with two points.
