Byng holds on to hand Madill third straight loss

The visiting Byng Lady Pirates topped the Madill Lady Wildcats by a score of 56-40 in their game Feb. 11. With the win, Byng moved to 11-10 on the years as the loss dropped Madill to 10-11 on the season.

Byng started the game on a 15-0 run and never looked back. The visitors used a full-court press on defense to flustered the Lady Wildcats in the early going. Gomex is subbed out for Adams.

The score at the end of the first quarter was Byng 19, Madill 6.

Second Quarter

The Lady Wildcats made some progress in the second quarter as junior guard Ximena Gomez found sophomore guard Destiny Adams for a three in the corner at the 5:20 mark to cut the deficit to 21-10.

Later Adams would make a layup to make it 28-17. The Lady Wildcats forced a turnover to take over with 1:19 left in the half.

Adams made a three just as the clock ran out to make it 28-20 to end the second quarter.

Third Quarter

Madill’s rally was shortlived as Byng pushed its lead to 39-27 midway through the third quarter after their starters returned.

Madill sophomore guard Jayden Weiberg responded with a three of her own to make it a nine-point game.

Then, Gomez found Weiberg for a three. Adams grabbed the rebound down low and then took a quick shot. She was fouled but made both free throws to cut the Byng lead to 39-32 with a little more than 90 seconds to go in the third quarter.

Byng junior Kennedy Large made a put back and was fouled by Weiberg. She made the free throw to make it 42-32. A Byng free throw increaded 43-32

Chapa scored inside to make 43-34 with 5.6 seconds left. That’s where things would stand heading into the fourth quarter.

Fourth quarter

Byng’s Trenity Miller made a bucket to open the final period and pushed the lead to 45-34.

Weiberg went inside and found Chapa for the layin to cut the Lady Pirate lead to 45-36.

On their next play, Byng slowed down the pace. The changed opened room for Large to take a layup where she was fouled by Schnider with 6:22 to go. Stumblingbear came on for Adams.

A foul sends 21 to the line for two shots with 5:24 to go. She makes the second to increase the lead to 48-36.

Large intercepts a pass and takes it the other way for two. Byng lead now 50-36.

Neely makes a two to increase the visitors’ advantage to 52-36.

Madill took a full timeout at 3:30 mark.

Large scores again on the next Byng and is fouled. She misses the free throw and the score stayed 54-36 in favor of the visitors.

Even after going down by 18 points and facing a a full volumned coach and a quiet home crowd, the Lady Wildcats did not quit. Schneider dived to stop a pass and Chapa backed her up with a slapping block of a Byng shot.

Weiberg hits a two. Score is now 54-40 after an earlier Madill free throw.

Byng sophomore Gian Dean scores a two to increase her team’s lead to 56-40 where the game would end.
