Alan Lowell Ortloff, 79, of Madill, passed away peacefully onWednesday,February19,2025afteracourageously optimistic battle with cancer.
Alan was born on September 27, 1945 in Tulsa, Okla., to Lowell and Wauneta Ortloff. Before graduating from Tulsa’s Nathan Hale High School in 1963, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He then attended Northeastern A&M earning his General Arts & Science degree. After which, he attended Oklahoma State University where, in addition to receiving his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, he met and married his sweetheart.
Alan and Pamela Sue Williams were married on September 9, 1967, at the Madill Church of Christ. The newlyweds moved to Texas and eventually California where Alan began his career at LTV Aerospace Company and Vandenburg Air Force Base before his father-in-law, Clint Williams, convinced him to move to back Madill and work for the family peanut business.
The couple had three sons: Steven, David and Bradley. The family enjoyed many ski trips, peanut conventions and road trips across the country in the family station wagon. Alan and Pam were the proud grandparents of five grandchildren: Jeffrey, Ryan, Emily, William and Paige. Alan was fond of spending time with his grandchildren attending hockey games, going on adventures, riding scooters in the driveway or shooting potato guns.
Alan considered travel his primary hobby. He and Pam ventured to over 30 countries and have a giant collection of scenery photos to prove it. He also enjoyed snow skiing, waterskiing and jogging. He was often spotted trotting through town sporting his electric blue running shorts and white sweatband. He loved to participate in the Reuel Little Classic and was proud to win his race group the year his grandsons, Jeffrey and Ryan, came to watch.
When Alan retired, he dedicated daily time at his computer to share countless dad jokes to friends and coworkers via email. Retirement also allowed Alan to spend hours outside tending to his flower beds. He had a real love of planting and insisted the beds be in tip-top condition when guests arrived. Alan also enjoyed driving guests and friends around town in his Mini Cooper on beautiful “top down days”.
In addition to his long career in the peanut industry, Alan was a member of the National Guard from 19691975. He joined the Madill Rotary in June of 1973. He also served on the Pettijohn Springs Christian Camp Board for over 25 years. He also belonged to the American Peanut Council Board of Directors and was President of the Texoma Peanut Company (Clint Williams Company).
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Wauneta Ortloff; brother, Wayne Ortloff; grandson, Ryan Ortloff; and in-laws, Clint and Bettye Williams Alan is survived by his wife, Pam; sister, Rita and Mike Basom of Cheyenne, Wyo.; sons, Steven and Amy Ortloff of Norman, Okla., David and Rita Ortloff of Oklahoma City, Okkla., and Bradley and Elyse Ortloff of Boston, Mass.; grandchildren,JeffreyandMaddiOrtloffofOklahomaCity, Okla., Emily Ortloff of Norman, Okla., William Ortloff of OKC, Okla., and Paige Ortloff of OKC, Okla.
Visitation were held Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Watts Funeral Home in Madill, Okla. from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a family hour from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Funeral service will be Friday, February 26, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Watts Memorial Chapel in Madill, Okla. Todd McRay will officiate the service. Interment will be at the Woodberry-Forest Cemetery in Madill, Okla. Services will be under the direction of Watts Funeral Home in Madill, Okla. Condolences may be sent to wattsfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Madill Rotary Club, or to Pettijohn Springs Christian Camp.
