Madill native sworn into Chickasaw Nation office

On October 3, five Chickasaw Nation officials elected during the August 2 election were sworn into office at the Chickasaw Nation Community Center. One of the members is a Madill native.

Ch ickasaw Nat ion Supreme Court Chief Justice Cheri Bellefeuille-Gordon administered the oath for the four legislators and one tribal Supreme Court Justice as they took office.

Legislators Lisa Johnson-Billy, Beth Alexander and Derrick Priddy reaffirmed their oaths of office. Charles Marris, a Madill native, took the oath of office of the Chickasaw Legislature for hisfirstterm.SupremeCourt Justice Mark H. Colbert was also sworn into office during the ceremony.

Johnson- Billy will continuetorepresent Pontotoc District, Seat 5; Marris will represent Pickens District, Seat 3, filling the open seat resultingfromtheretirement of Linda Briggs of Marietta; Alexander will represent Panola District, Seat 1; and Priddy will continue to represent Tishomingo District, Seat 2.

Justice Colbert was reaffirmed to Seat 1 on the Supreme Court.

Ch i c k a saw Nat ion Legislators and Supreme Court Justices each serve a three-year term. The Chickasaw Nation Legislature consists of 13 members. Each one is elected from the Chickasaw Nation’s four legislative districts: Panola, Pickens, Pontotoc and Tishomingo.
