Girls v Plainview
On January 25, 2022, the Lady Redskins faced the Plainview Indians and bounced back in a big way by taking down the # 18 in Class 4A team. The final score was 52 to 44. Counting tonight’s win, the Lady Redskins are ranked 11th in Class 3A and have a 11 and 4 record.
The Lady Redskins took the court shorthanded without Kamry Bohannon. Coach Chad Rumer countered by starting three point guards against the much taller Lady Indians. Plainview scored first and lead 2 to 0.
Laney French responded by hitting a three-pointer for a three to two lead and the Lady Redskins never trailed. In fact, she went on the hit another three. Olivia Quapaw chipped in a three of her own. Emily Bellettini had an inside bucket, and Jayda Foster had a bucket and a free throw. The Lady Redskins ended the first quarter leading 14 to 11.
In the second quarter, Bellettini had two buckets against the much taller opponent Bellettini had two buckets against the much taller opponent. Raegan Davis got inside and hit a bucket. It was the three-point shooting of Quapaw that kept the Indians at bay. She had three. Still the Lady Redskins were hanging on 26 to 22.
Third quart er action saw Jaci Herndon take over the three-point shooting. She was quiet in the first but came out firing to start the second half. She had a three and two layups. Bellettini had another inside bucket, Kaya Wiebener had a layup and a free throw. The lead was still only six points, 38 to 32.
Herndon made sure that this game would go in the win column. She had two more three pointers in the quarter. Davis had three inside baskets and Bellettini had one. The Lady Redskins played keep away for a bit, and coasted in for a 52 to 44 victory.
Box score: Herndon led her team with 13 points. She was closely followed by Bellettini who had 10. Quapaw was next with nine points, all of them three pointers. Davis had eight, French with six, Wiebener and Foster each with three.
Girls v Byng
On January 28, 2022, the Lady Redskins faced the Lady Pirates and played a hard-fought game. It may have taken overtime to do it, but this game goes in the win column for the ladies. Final score was 70 to 65. The Lady Redskins move to 12 wins and 4 losses and hold on to their #11 ranking in Class 3A.
Senior Raegan Davis got things going in the first quarter. She had a five-point quarter ter including a three. Jaci Herndon and Kaya Wiebener each had three-point goal. Inside, Emily Bellettini had two goals. Ethel Stewart came in and did what she does best, got the offensive rebounds and scored. She also had a freethrow.Afteronequarter, the Ladies led 18 to 15.
In the second, it was more about weathering the storm. Davis again had a bucket, Laney French and Stewart each had field goals. Bellet tini had two more field goals Kamry Bohannon also had two inside buckets and she was 1 of 3 from the line. At the buzzer, the Lady Redskins found themselves down by one point, 34 to 33.
Bellettini came out of the locker room ready to go. She had another bucket and was 2 of 2 from the line. Then she let fly a three-point er, nothing but net. Wiebener had another three-pointer. Bohannon, Stewart and Herndon all added field goals. With a little breathing room, the Lady Redskins took a seven-point lead to the fourth, 49 to 42.
French, Quapaw, and Stewart all had field goals in the fourth. Bellettini went 3 of 4 from the free throw line. Quapaw was fouled hard as Byng was trying to foul to stop the clock. In fact, she was knocked out of bounds - intentional foul called. She hit 1 of 2.
Wiebener was fouled but missed the front end of the one and one. The Lady Pirates banked in a threepointer and off to overtime they go. The score, 59 all.
French stepped up in the overtime period. She had a three-pointer and was 3 of 4 from the line. Quapaw was 2 of 2 from the line. Bellettini had another field goal but missed her free throw attempt . The final minute played out with Byng scoring and trailing by 2, 67 to 65. Herndon fouled with 29 seconds to play but missed both. She was fouled again with 18 seconds left. She hit 1 of 2. French again came through. She hit both free throws and the Lady Redskins escaped with a 70 to 65 overtime win.
Box score: Bellettini carried the load tonight with 20 points. French was next with 10 points, six came in the overtime. Stewart had nine points. Davis and Bohannon each had seven. Herndon and Wiebener each had five. Quapaw was next with five, including 2 of 2 from the line in the overtime.
Girls v Vanoss
The Lady Redskins met the Vanoss Lady Wolves on January 29, 2022. The highlight of the evening was crowning Raegan Davis as the 2022 Homecoming Queen because Kingston lost by one point.
It was evident in the first quarter that the scoring was going to be hard to come by. In fact, they scored t heir first bucket at the 4:55 mark. At 1:30leftin the quarter, it was 12 to 2, advantage Vanoss. Emily Bellettini had the only field goal in the first. Jayda Foster, off the bench, was 2 of 2 from the line. Jacie Herndon was 1 of 2 from the stripe. After one quarter, Vanoss led 12 to 5.
In the second quarter, Olivia Quapaw had a field goal. Herndon had a field goal and was 1 of 2 from the line. Lanie French was 1 of 2 from the line. Bellettini had a bucket and was 2 of 2 from the line.
Kaya Wiebener was hitting her shot. Although she was chased off her favorite spot, the three-point line, she managed three buckets near the top of the key in the paint. The Lady Redskins scratched and clawed to pull within one point at the half. The score was 22 to 21.
Bellettini saved her best for the second half. In the third, she had three baskets underneath and was 1 for 2 from the line. Herndon had a three-pointer, and Quapaw a field goal. The ladies gave up a little ground and trailed by a little ground and trailed by four points, 37 to 33.
In the fourth quarter, Bellettini worked hard for every point. She had two more field goals and was 1 of 2 from the line. Herndon had a nice quarter. She had a three-pointer and a bucket.
With 3:45 to play, the Ladies finally tied the game at 40 all. At the 2:07, marked it was tied again at 42 to 42. With 47 seconds to play, the Lady Redskins were trailing by one, 44 to 43. With six seconds to play, Kamry Bohannon was fouled and went to the line for a 1 and 1. She missed the first and Vanoss escaped with a one-point victory. Final score was 44 to 43.
Box score: Bellettini had 18 points. Herndon was next with 12. Wiebener had six, Quapaw with four and Foster two. From the free throw line, as a team, 9 of 17 for 53 %.
