Kinston retires Henderson’s jersey

The KMAC was packed with Marshall County basketball fans on December 7, 2021,towitness the Lady Redskins basketball number 13 jersey get retired - the jersey formally worn by Britny Le’Ann Henderson.

Britny lost her life in a car accident on Tuesday the 26th of October 2021. She was in route to SOSU where she was a student.

It was a solemn sight as her family - parents, Robert and Brandi Henderson and brother and sister-in-law, Brady, and Reagan Henderson-made their way tocentercourtasthe announcer read her long list of accolades.

Britny was a four-year starter for Coach Chad Rumer graduating with the class of 2020. She was a State finalist, District, Regional and Area tournament champion. She was an important player on the most prolific girls’ basketball team in Lady Redskin history.

After being presented with a plaque with her #13 jersey, her family lifted it high forthe home crowd to see and then turned to face the visiting Wildcat fans. A standing ovation fromtheentire building wenton forseveral minutes.The KHS students and fans were all wearing pink to honor her.A very nice gesture by many of the Wildcat faithful, coaches, cheerleaders and teachers who joined their cross county rivals in wearing pink themselves.

A scholarship fund has been opened in her name with United Bank of Kingston.
