The 11th ranked class 4A team from Broken Bow made the long Highway 70 road trip on January 19, 2021 to take on the 15th ranked class 3A Kingston Redskins. This was the second time Coach Taylor Weibner and his team have faced off against them. Flash back to January 9 and the second round of the New Years Classic; Broken Bow handled the Redskins with ease. This time it was not so easy. The game turned into a three overtime, 72 to 66, loss for the Redskins.
Brady Brister started the game on fire. He totaled three, three-point field goals and four of four from the line. Marshall Ludrick had a field goal, Jase Hays was two of two from the line and Jesse Rose was one of two from the charity stripe. After one quarter of play, the score was all tied, 18 to 18.
In the second quarter, Brister was still offensive minded. He added a three, a two, and was 2 of 2 from the line. The highlight of the quarter was Tucker Rumer who pitched in three long range threepointers. Dakota (Microwave) Weibner was right behind him with two threes of his own. Hays had a field goal. The lead was now in the Redskins hand, 42 to 36.
Coming out of the locker room, the Redskins had to feel pretty good about themselves. Weibner got busy with another three and Hays added one of his own. Rose was good for a bucket underneath. The Redskins clung to a 50 to 47 lead after three quarters.
The fourth quarter had Weibner with two more threepointers and that was it for the Redskin scoring. The score was all tied at 56.
Going into the first overtime, there was tight defense from both teams. The only Redskin scoring came from the free throw line. Hays was 2 of 2. Marshall Ludrick was 1 of 2. At the buzzer, the game was still tied, now at 59 to 59.
Overtime number two saw Brister with a field goal and was 1 of 2 from the line. He wasn’t the only Redskins getting to the line. Hays was 1 of 3, Ludrick was 1 of 2, Rose was 0 for 2. Tying the game once again, 62 all.
The third overtime was where the steam ran out of the train. The Redskins’ valiant effort could only manage free throw attempts in this last Oa. Hays was 2 of 4, Brister was 1 of 2. The Redskins went down 72 to 66, in 3 0/T.
Box score: Brister lead all scorers with 24. This included four three-point goals, two field goals, and he was 8 of 10 from the line. Next up was Weibner who tallied 15 points. His all came on three-point goals, five of them. Hays ended the night with 12 points. He had a three and a two and was 7 of 12 from the line. Right behind him was Rumer who had nine. His was all on three point goals. Rose and Ludrick had three points each. Rose a field goal and a free throw, Ludrick the same
