As many people know, June 16 was the primary elections and many local and state seats were open. In Marshall County, there were two seats that were voted on; the Marshall County Commissioner District 1 and the Marshall County Treasurer.
Justin 'Wormy' Ayres was elected the new Commissioner with 63% of the votes. LauraLarkin,theincumbent for the treasurer seat, kept herspotwith68%ofthevotes.
Ayres said he appreciates everyone and all the support he received.
'Thank you, District 1,' he said. 'I'm honored to serve as your County Commissioner and I truly appreciate everyone who supported, encouraged and voted for me.'
'I also want to acknowledge my opponents,' he continued, 'they carried themselves with calss and ran a clean and respectful race. I look forward to working with Jerry and the employees of District 1 as we move into the work ahead. I'm eager and committed to doing what it takes to sere the district well.'
Larkin said she is also thankful for all the support she received on and off the campaign trail.
'I just want to say it's a great feeling and I want to thank everyone who supported me and helped me to make it possible,' she said. 'That would be my husband, the girls that work for me because without them, I couldn't have done it.'
On the state side of the election, the race for Governor is still going on. Gentner DrummondandMikeMazzei, both Republican candidates, were so close in numbers that they will have to have a run off election in August.
TheotherRepublicanwins were T.W. Shannon for Lt. Governor, Jon Echols for Attorney General, Cindy Byrd for State Treasurer, Robert Franklin for Superintendent of Public Instruction, Kevin Hern for United States Senator and Josh Breechen, United States Representative District 2.
The Democratic candidate advancing to the Governer election is Cyndi Munson. The other winners are Jeanettie Marshall for Superintendent for Public Instruction, N'Kiyla Jasmine Thomas, United States Senator and Brandon Wade, United States Representative District 2.
Oklahoma State Representative Josh Cantrell said he was proud of the candidates and the voters. 'Congrats to the winners, state and local,' he said. 'I'm proud of everyone who ran, that takes courage. I am also proud of the people who toook time out of their busy schedules to go cast their votes.'
Cantrell also noted that voting in any election is important.
