Kingston’s high school baseball team blasted its way to a pair of district victories last week and then followed with two wins in three games at the Sulphur Invitational.
TheysmackedAntlers,7-1 and 10-0, ahead of the 7-2 win over Davis and 6-5 edging of Plainview. The Redskins dropped a 13-3 verdict to Lone Grove.
Off to a 6-2 start on the year, the Redskins will host their annual tournament beginning on Thursday.
In the first district matchup against Antlers, Hayden Seeney twirled a strong six innings on the mound for the pitching victory, scattering five hits while striking out 10.
It was only a 2-1 Kingston lead until the fifth inning when they plated five runs sparked by a Lander Burkhalter two-run double and Blane Henry RBI single. Henry finished with a teambest two hits.
The Redskins scored in every inning of the second district encounter, riding a complete game four-hit pitching gem from Henry, who struck out six and walked one.
Kingstonmadethemostof seven hits, all of which were singles, topped by a pair from BrockRumerwhoalsoscored one and drove in a run. Ty Jones also contributed a hit, one RBI and scored three times.
Facing Davis, it was Rumer and Burkhalter that combined on the pitching decision as they scattered six hits and twounearnedrunsoverseven innings. Rumer tallied four frames with Burkhalter tossing the final three stanzas.
Seeney posted two hits, including a double, and drove in a pair while Ewan Weaver chipped in with two singles and one RBI. Burkhalter also added two hits in the 12-hit Kingston attack.
It was an uphill climb to stay with powerful Lone Grove in the semifinal loss despite Weaver smacking a homeruntoleadtheoffensive charge. Seeney also had two hits, including a double, but the Redskins only managed five hits for the game.
Kingston rallied to claim third over Plainview as they answered an early 3-0 deficit.
The Redskins scored twice in the third on a Rumer two-run homer and then took the lead in the fourth stanza following a Slyder Hill RBI double and Jaksyn Martin run-scoring single. They added two for insurance that proved vital in the fifth stanza when Burkhalter doubled home one and later scored on a Plainview error.
