Riding a stellar defensive effort, the Kingston Lady Redskins began the basketball season with a pair of wins last week while the Redskins split opening action.
CoachChadRumer’sLady Redskins toppled Plainview, 48-33, before stifling Ada by a 38-22 count on the road. The Redskins meanwhile were 65-20 victors in romp against Plainview ahead of a 64-45 loss at Ada.
Girls
It was a slow start for the Lady Redskins in the opener as Plainview held a 21-20 halftime advantage before Kingston awoke in a big way.
Tylie Wiebener canned a pair of three pointers right after the break and Destry Davisaddedfourpointsinthe frame to help fuel a decisive 19-6 burst that put the Lady Redskins ahead to stay. They only yielded six points in the final period while maintaining the double-digit cushion.
Cassidy Walker led a balanced attack with 13 points with Davis also reaching double figures with 12. Wiebener tossed in eight, Avery Ludrick scored six, Keeton Hatley notched five and Olivia McAlister added four points.
The Lady Redskins got off to a fast start in the Ada victory, claiming a 16-10 edge through one stanza spurred by a pair of Ludrick treys. Kingston was up 22-14 at intermission and blew it open with an 11-2 third quarter blitz while turning up the defensive pressure.
Ludrick poured in 12 points to take high scoring honors as Walker pitched in 10. They also got five pointsfromWiebener,Dextry Bowerman had four, McAlister scored three as Davis and Hatley ended with two apiece.
Boys
In the opener, Kingston put together a dominant defensive effort that yielded just one point in the first period andthrewacompleteshutout in the fourth.
The Redskins led 14-1 through one frame and steadily pulled away from there with a 29-8 edge at halftime and 48-20 following the third period.
Four Kingston players tallied double figures with Blane Henry leading the charge with 14 points, 12 from Lander Burkhalter and 10 apiece by Jack Hinsley and Bowen McAdams. Hayden Seeney scored six, Brock Rumer notched five, Christian Davis and Slyder HillhadthreeeachwithLuke Bellettini ending with two.
The Redskins did not get off to nearly as good a start against Ada as the host Cougars built a 17-7 advantage through one period.
Hinsleypumpedineightof the team’s dozen points in the second stanza but they were still outscored 13-12. Ada then extended the margin to 47-30 at the end of three periods.
Kingston was paced by Hinsley’s 16 points while Hudson Everhart contributed 11 and Seeney 10. Rumer and Henry finished with four points apiece.
