Barbosa, Robledo event winners at Madill Meet

Junior Yadira Barbosa won the girls’ 800 meters and senior Christian Robledo claimed the boys’ pole vault title to highlight the rugged competition in the Annual Madill Invitational Track Meet last Friday.

Barbosa’s personal best time of 2:33.11 took the 800 meters crown while she was second in the 1600 meters at 5:32.25 and runner-up in the 3200 meters as well with a personal best mark of 11:46.04.

Robledo meanwhile eclipsed a solid effort of 12 feet, 6 inches to capture the pole vault crown with teammate Triston Barnes just behind in second with a top leap of 12 feet even.

As a team the Wildcats finished fourth in the boys points race while the Lady Wildcats ended fifth.

On the girls’ side, junior Zeplyn Thomas added a second place time of 13.16 seconds for a personal best in the 100 meters as teammate KarmonyPearsoncheckedin eighth at 13.83. La Taylor addedapersonalbestmarkof 1:05.77 in finishing seventh in the 400 meters.

FreshmanHadonStuckey chipped in a 7-foot, 6 inch jump for fourth in the pole vault with Madelyn Ritchie also checking in fourth in the shot put at 30 feet, 1 ¼ inches with Addy Miller ending seventh at 28 feet, 2.5 inches. Luciana Douglas rounded out the field event placers with seventh in the long jump at 15 feet even.

The Lady Wildcat sprint relay unit of Thomas, Elexis Holmes, Joshlynn Clayburn and Douglas wrapped up fourth in 53.19 seconds with the same group placing sixth in the 800 relay at 1:54.42.

The Wildcats got strong performances from senior James Valadez with a personal best 10:16.31 for second in the 3200 meters and was alsofourthinthe1600meters at 4:42.85. Teammate Jose Campos was just ahead in the 1600 meters placing third with a personal best mark of 4:42.75.

Several Madill athletes placed in field events led by the discus duo of Gilberto Grimaldo and Aroddy Camacho who ended third and fourth respectively. Grimaldo’s top toss registered 128 feet, 7 inches with Camacho checking in with a 122-feet, 10 inches toss.

Jagger Rogers was a fifthplace finisher in the high jump with a personal best 5 feet, 6 inches. Grimaldo was sixth in the shot put at 40 feet, 4 inches.

Madill’s foursome of Valadez, Campos, Ryder Douglas and Rogers clocked in third in the 3200 relay at 8:38.57.

The 800-relay combination of Jose Menchaca, Camacho, Jaxon Diaz and JoaquinMenchacaregistered a fourth-place time of 1:35.72 as the same unit finished fifth in the sprint relay at 46.77 seconds. The school’s 1600 relay unit of Camacho, Douglas, Menchaca and Diaz was also fifth in 3:40.99.
