Class 4A’s sixth-ranked Madill Lady Wildcats ran their winning streak to 14 last week with dominant victories while the Wildcat boys split outings, including a Homecoming triumph.
Coach Eric Holmes’ girls unit romped past Sulphur, 73-22, before having an early challenge with Class 2A 10th rated Calera and responding for a 53-32 triumph.
On the boys’ side, the Wildcats ran into a Sulphur buzz saw in a 63-47 loss but followed up by defeating Calera, 67-57.
Each team returns to conference play this week on the road at Marietta Friday with Plainview coming in for a visit on Tuesday night.
Girls
The Lady Wildcats made quick work of Sulphur by pouncing on the Lady Bulldogs to the tune of a 21-2 lead after one stanza, sparked by 10 points from Luci Douglas.
Madill reeled off another 21 points in the second frame to push the margin to 42-9 at halftime and extended it to 61-16 at the end of three periods.
Elexis Holmes topped three players in double figures with 18 points with Douglas just behind her with a solid 17-point performance. E’Niyah Holmes also posted 12 with eight from Chloe Miller, six by La’Miyah Brown. Ireland Groeber and Arlette Andrade pitched in four points apiece with Karma Williams and Jade Soto each adding two.
It was Brown that had the big game to join the Holmes sisters in double digits against Calera as the Lady Wildcats led only 12-10 after one period.
Madill erupted for 20 points in the second as E’Niyah Holmes led the charge with eight points as Brown and Elexis Holmes tossed in six apiece to help push the advantage to 10 at the break.
The Lady Wildcats eased to a 39-28 cushion after three periods and outscored the visitors 14-4 in the final frame.
Elexis Holmes posted 18 points but E’Niyah was just behind with 15 along with Brown’s 12. Douglas tallied five and Andrade ended with three.
Boys
Three-point shooting was the story of the week for the Wildcats, who scorched the nets from the perimeter in both contests.
Thatearlyshooting,which included eight treys for the game, helped stake the Wildcats to a surprising 15-13 edge through one quarter. Sulphur was up to the task one frame later in pumping in 22 points to take the lead for good.
It was just a 45-36 cushion through three stanzas as Madill hung tough with the explosive Bulldogs.
Jagger Rogers had three of the treys on the way to 15 points with Cash Cooper canning four to pitch in 14 points for the contest. Ryan Anderson scored seven, Adrian Gomez had five, Sammy Duran added four and Jaxon Diaz notched two.
The Wildcats sizzled the nets for 10 three pointers but it took a monster fourth quarter for the hosts to pull away for the win.
Madillheldanarrow18-15 edge after one period but saw the Bulldogs rally to knot the score at 31 going to intermission. An 18-17 Calera edge in the third frame claimed the lead by a point heading into the fourth.
In the decisive final period, Rogers took off offensively while pumping in 10 points to single handedly outscore Calera as Madill closed on a 19-8 burst.
Rogers sank two of the treys on the way to hitting for 22 points. Anderson and Duraneachnotched13points with Duran netting three of the treys. Cooper also drilled three treys to pitch in nine points overall.
Gomez checked in with six points, Diaz had three and Uziel Flores scored one point.
