Lady Wildcats capture Atoka tourney title

Freshman Elexis Holmes exploded for a career-high 38 points and earned MVP honors as the Madill Lady Wildcats captured the Atoka tournament title with a 68-41 title win over rival Kingston on Saturday night.

Holmes was virtually unstoppableinthechampionship contest, single handedly outscoringtheLadyRedskins over the first two periods as Madill built a 16-9 edge after one frame and 34-16 at the half. The Lady Wildcat catalyst poured in nine points in quarter one and 10 more in the second.

Junior E’Niyah Holmes was also named to the All-Tournament team as Madill blasted Durant JV (61-10) and pulled away from Atoka (56-42) to start the tournament. TheLadyWildcatsalso belted Hugo, 79-55, earlier in the week.

Madill’s boys meanwhile reached the consolation title game of the tournament before falling to Pauls Valley, 68-63. The Wildcats lost to Durant (55-35) in the opener but rebounded to topple Atoka (60-29).

A couple of key home tests awaits Madill next with Ardmore visiting on Friday and Riverside on Tuesday in a much-anticipatedshowdown on the girls’ side.

Girls

In the first game of the week against Hugo the Lady Wildcats romped to a 26-6 lead after one stanza and extended the margin to 47--17 at the half before cruising through the final two periods.

Elexis Holmes pumped in 27 points, including three treys, in just three quarters with E’Niyah Holmes also hitting double figures with 16.

MadillblankedtheDurant JV 40-0 through one half on thewaytotheeasyfirstround triumph.

ElexisHolmespacedthree double figure scorers with 16 points while Arlette Andrade chipped in 11 and La’Miyah Brown had 10.

TheAtokasemifinalshowdown was a solid battle through three periods before a decisive 17-6 final period punch by the Lady Wildcats put it away. Madill led 14-11 after one stanza, 26-21 at halftime and 39-36 through three frames.

Elexis Holmes paced the scoring with 21 as E’Niyah also reached double figures with 14. Brown and Luci Douglas posted eight points each.

Madill’s closest game since Christmas break has been a 13-point win over Kingston just two weeks ago, but the Lady Wildcats weren’t challenged this time aroundthankstoanoffensive onslaught that included at least 16 points every quarter.

Brown tallied nine points with Douglas adding seven and Andrade six in the title contest. E’Niyah Holmes ended with four points with Ireland Groeber and Chloe Miller pitching in two apiece.

Boys

The Wildcats dug themselves an early hole against Durant, trailing 14-6 after one stanza before being shutout in the second frame.

Madill finally got the offense rolling with 18 points in the fourth, sparked by 10 by Jagger Rogers, but it was not enough to offset 24 from the Lions.

Cash Cooper paced the scoring, hitting four three pointers on the way to 12 points while Rogers posted 11.

The Wildcats had a much bettershowingagainstAtoka on the way to the second round rout, outscoring the Wampus Cats 21-7 in the first period to take command. A 16-4 second period pushed the advantage to 37-11 at intermission with the Madill cruising the rest of the way.

Rogers poured in 21 points as the scoring catalyst while Cooper tallied 14, connecting on four treys in the process.

Sammy Duran also hit three treys to finish with nine, Uziel Flores and Ryan Anderson pitched in six apiece with Shawn Taylor and Teagan Groeber scoring two apiece.

Madill got off to a good start again against Pauls Valley, leading 14-10 after one quarter before the Panthers rallied for a 32-27 edge at half. The second half was nip and tuck but the Wildcats were never able to go back in front.

They had a trio of double digit scorers paced by Anderson’s 19 points. Duran contributed 16 with Rogers also adding 15 points.
