Guy was raised in Tyler, where she attended elementary school and graduated from Madill High School. Her father passed away when she was six years old. She, her mother, and her sister lived a very hard life. They were survivalist long before that word became popular.
Many of her friends and relatives were in a similar situation. Guy and her mother had a small dairy where they hand milked cows, raised cotton, corn and other crops to survive. She learned how to work hard at an early age, and this developed into a very strong work ethic she carried with her all of her life.
She later attended SOSU where she received two Master’s degrees, one in Education and the other in Reading. She married Estle Hallmark at the First Baptist Church in Madill on December 19, 1954. She loved teaching and helping young minds develop. She taught school two years in Tishomingo, several years in Lone Grove, one year in Talihina, five years in Lebanon, and finished her 36-year teaching career in Madill.
