Senior Spotlight

As the basketball season kicks off, Madill High School proudly shines a spotlight on one of its standout senior athletes, Ireland Groeber. A dedicated student and an accomplished athlete, Groeber hasmadeasignificantimpact not only on the basketball court but also in the school community.

Groeber has been a part of the Madill school system for her entire life. She is the daughter of Greg and Allison Groeber, sister to Joshua and Teagan and granddaughter to Terry and Paula Uzzel.

In addition to basketball, Groeber participates in fast and slow pitch softball and archery. Her commitment to athletics has fueled her ambition tocontinuehereducation and athletic career at Murray State College, where she said she plans to pursue her studies while playing softball.

Reflecting on her time at Madill, Groeber shared that her favorite memory is not a single event but the daily interactions with her friends. “Just getting to see my friends every day is definitely my favorite part about going to school,” she said.

Another favorite memory is after a game when the team celebrated together on the bus, singing and dancing with a speaker.

Groeber expressed heartfelt gratitude toward her coaches, thanking them for their unwavering support and motivation.

“Coach, thank you for pushing me every day to be a better athlete, a better student, and just an all-around better person,” she said. “You have taught me things I can carry out and use in the real world.”

She said her parents also play a crucial role in her life.

“Thank you for all the sacrifices you have made for me to help me be where I am today,” she stated.

When it comes to sports, Groeber said she looks up to Jocelyn Also, a star in the softball world who exemplifi es resilience and hard work.

“Sheinspiredmethathard work will pay off,” Ireland reflected.

As a seasoned athlete, Groeber offered valuable advice to her younger classmates.

“My advice is hard work and dedication will always pay off, although sometimes it might not feel like it,” she said. “Keep your head up and keep pushing because one day it will.”
