What does it mean to be a man of honor, commitment and worthy of admiration? Those traits cannot be given to anybody, nor be purchased for any price. They are only earned.
The late Bobby Leroy Davis was that man, and he earned that life. He was a man who was devoted to his church, a man who deeply loved his family and friends, a veteran who stood for the country, a role model for the community’s children and a man who was a leader for a communityheloved.Hechose to excel in an ever-changing world with hard work and dedication in everything he did.
Davis had long-lasting commitmentsthatarebecoming harder to see in this day and age. He married the love of his life, the late Martha Fay Davis, in 1969 and they were together until her passing in 2023. A solid marriage is what many people aim for and the Davis's hit the target. Their love led to the births of five children. As the branches spread from a fruitful tree, the family grew to 15 grandchildren and 21 greatgrandchildren, reaching into the future generations with a strong foundation.
He joined the National Guard after graduating from Madill High School in 1965, retiring as Platoon Sergeant after 25 years of service.
As the chapters passed through his 20s, 30s and into his 40s, he made cherished memories. Davis was very committed to Marshall County, and spoke of his love of the community often.
“That was a big portion of my life I really loved,” Davis said in a previous interview with The Madill Record.
Madill Mayor Travis Williams said that Davis was a great man and leader.
'Mr. Bobby Davis was a kind-hearted, stedfast and full of wisdom man who was a great leader and friend,' Williams said. 'he was faithful to God, family, the City of Madill and our whole community. He will be greatly missed.Wewouldliketosend condolences, love and prayers to his family.'
Davis was also a dedicated employee retiring from the Michelin Tire Company of Ardmore after 23 years. Staying with a job for that long is proof of his character and strong work ethic.
A new vice mayor will be nominated and voted on by the city council at a later date.
