Fire ends in fatality

A Marshall County family is mourning the loss of a beloved family member after a fire on Thanksgiving Day. On November 28, at approximately 6:20 p.m., Madill fire fighters were paged out to a structure fire.

Madill Fire Chief Mike Idlemansaidthattheoriginal page was a fire with injuries. They weren’t sure what type of fire or what type of injuries were involved. While en route to the fire, they were told it was a possible barn fire with somebody trapped inside.

When MPD arrived on the scene, the structure - a 10x20 building that the family was residing in - was fully engulfed in flames. The fire was so involved that it took MPD approximately 30 minutes to get the fire under control. Unfortunately, this meant that the MPD wasn’t able to do any rescue efforts.

Once MPD was able to get the fire under control, Idleman called the OK Fire Marshall and the OK State Medical Examiner so they could begin their investigation. The fire is still under investigation, but it seems as if there was an explosion in the stove that was inside the residence.

Even though they are still waiting for the official word, Idleman said they are pretty confident that there was no foul play. Marshall County Sheriff Donald Yow said in a press release that it appeared to be “an accidental explosion possibly caused by a kerosene heater/stove.”

One of the residents, Katherine Gonzalez, said that the victim of the fire was her father,Carlos. However,Idleman and Marshall County Sheriff Donald Yow both said that they can’t say for certain that the victim was Carlos until the medical examiner identifies the victim by their dental records. This could take the state a few weeks to get those results back.

Katherine said she is devastated by the sudden loss of her father. She stated in a Facebook post that she lost her mother a few years prior.

Since the house was a total loss, Katherine lost everything. She was only able to walk away from the fire with what she was wearing.

This is where Marshall Countyjumpedinandshowed their caring spirit and how they help their neighbors in a time of need. Many people donateditemstoKatherineto help with many of the items she lost. There were also residentswhosentKatherine donations through CashApp.

Woody Ford stepped up to the plate, as well. They announced that they will match the CashApp donation amount dollar for dollar.
