On February 2, the Madill Wildcats entered the game against Marietta with a tengame winning streak and a 22-game home win streak dating back to last season. Marietta wasn’t up to the challenge as the Wildcats took down the Indians 5724 to extend both of those streaks.Thisgamewasnever in doubt for Madill, as they handled the Indians as they gear up for a playoff run right around the corner.
Wildcat big man, Ethan Wilkerson, led all scoring in dominating performance as he notched 24 points and pulled down seven rebounds along with adding seven blocks. Greg Padgett pitched in with 11 points to go along with seven rebounds and three swipes. The seniors continue to come up big in every way as the season rolls on.
Madill held a commanding 35-12 lead at the half and never looked back. The Wildcats held Marietta to just three points in the 3rd period to get out to a very comfortableleadheadinginto the 4th quarter. Marietta actually won the 4th quarter by outscoring Madill 9-7, but it was far from enough and the Wildcats prevailed, bringing their record to 19-1, and 9-0 in Lake Country
Boys v Riverside Indian
The Madill Wildcats brought an eleven-game win streak into their road match with Riverside Indian. That streak ended as the Braves used overtime to hold off the Wildcats 48-45. Riverside Indian upset the higher ranked Wildcats, keeping the scoring low and not allowing theseniorladenMadillsquad to overpower them.
In the loss, Ethan Wilkerson led the Wildcats with 20 points and seven rebounds to go with five blocks. Brylan James added 16 points of his own to go along with five assists. JD Runyan helped out with four points and five rebounds. However, it was all for naught as Madill was outscored by the Braves 8-5 in the extra session to complete the upset, after a very low scoring 4th quarter for both squads.
Riverside Indian continues to stay hot at the right time of the season, winning six of their last eight games and bringing their record to 12-7 record on this season. Madill still holds an impressive 19-2 record after the loss and still remains unbeaten in district play.
Girls v Marietta
The Madill Lady Wildcats topped Marietta 44-14 on February 2 in Lake Country district play. Madill got off to a dominating start, leading 13-0 after the first quarter. Marietta couldn’t muster a bucketandtheLadyWildcats took advantage.
Marietta didn’t tally their first points until midway through the 2nd quarter, cutting the Madill lead to 15-2 at that point in the game. But that would be the only points the Lady Indians would get in the first half. Madill took a 24-2 lead into the locker room at the half after a threepointer just before the buzzer by Eryanna Holmes.
The 4th quarter began with Madill leading 40-12. That led to a very slow paced, low scoring final stanza to the game. The Lady Wildcats outscored Marietta 4-2 in the 4th quarter, making the final 44-14 and giving Madill the win.
Madill had a quick turnaround and hit the road to face Riverside Indian on Saturday in a non-district matchup. Marietta has a road matchup against the Pirates of Byng next on their schedule.
The girls played Riverside Indian on February 3 and lost 71-37.
