The sixth item was to discuss and take action on Election Resolution #737 for place four and five. The council moved to accept.
Item seven was to discuss and take action on appointing Sallianne Millford to the Madill Housing Authority Board. City manager James Fullingim moved to table item as the housing authority had not presented the city with all the proper paperwork from their office; council approved to table item.
After tabling agenda item seven, the council moved on to item eight. It was to discuss and take action on approving a 2008 Ford F250 as surplus property and to possibly sell the vehicle. The council approved selling the Ford truck that has been in use with the city works department.
Item nine was set aside for any matter not known or which could not be reasonably foreseen prior to the time of agenda being posted.
Agenda item ten was the city financial report $315,569.93 of sales tax revenue, $43,996.21 of use tax, revenue at 57.90%, expenses at 61.69%.
Next, was agenda item eleven. it was the report from city manager James Fullingim. The city is now taking resumes for the Chief of Police position.
The council announced that there will be a retirement party for Chief Steven Ray on the January 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Library Room in the Fred Stanley Center.
Brush pick up was on the January 8. The street department is preparing for the cold weather and possible ice.
The council discussed a meeting with Coach Van in reference to the upgrades at the city ballfields and to see if he will still be involved.
The city bought a half ton vehicle that was approved for purchase by the city council a few years ago. They are looking to purchase a second vehicle, that has already been approved and budgeted for by the council. One will be used for the water treatment plant and the other will be used at the city parks department.
Fullingim discussed a topic of many conversations in Marshall County, the red light at highway 377 and US 70. He noted that the light had a processor replaced to fix the malfunctioning that was happening since it was installed. It will continue to be monitored to ensure the issue is fixed.
The city is currently installing new plastic grates over the concrete flooring at the city swimming pool house in the halls and entrance. The city is also “exploring” grants for parks including the planned Qualls Park.
The city’s website will now be overseen by city employee Tracy Cain in lieu of having it run by an outside source.
Another hot topic was discussed in Fullingim’s report. The sewer press that the city has been waiting on has been built and awaiting delivery. All work at the plant needed for installation of the press is already done. The delivery date is unknown and will be determined by the end of the week. The city will give a better timeline of installation at the city waste treatment plant.
There is a new Dollar General and a coffee shop being built on highway 70 by Oak View Baptist Church. The city is working with Dollar General to install new sewer lines to help accommodate the new businesses.
