“I just want your kiss.” That’s what The Doghouse in Tishomingo received from the group 1999 The Legacy of Prince. Danny Allen (Prince), a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, andproducerkickedoff the show with a fan favorite “Take Me with You.”

The Legacy is a highenergy tribute production dedicated to carrying on the legacy of multi-platinum artist Prince. Allen stated he is not the leader of the group, that they collaborate and come together as one in songs and decisions. As one, they delivered quite a show.

Their realistic and stage presence was right on point. The group is comprised of both seasoned and accomplished musicians and producers and can put on a Las Vegas-style show including dancers and choreography.

The band consists of Jessica Soto, guitarists; Linda Lee, backing vocals; D’andre Miskel, drums;GiovanniRiggens, keyboard and Isaiah Proctor, bassist. The group was recognized by Platinum MusicComplexasDFW’sPop Band of the Year 2023.

Allen has experience portraying Prince, he also acted as the star in a Reelz documentary. They are quite accomplished withawiderange of talents that go far beyond the stage.

Attending the show brought back many found memories from this era of music that has not faded by any means, especially when the group dropped the lights and began performing. Many audience members stayed on their feet the entire performance. They found themselves dancing, singing and reminiscing about memories of the past.

The playlist consisted of Prince’s best hits like” Little RedCorvette','TakeMewith You”, “When Doves Cry”, “Raspberry Beret” and “Let’s go Crazy”. Toward the end of the show, Prince (Allen) stood poised in his stance with purple lighting and smoke surrounding him and the lyrics of “Purple Rain” began as the audience had anticipated and sang along.

One couldn’t ask for a better Prince experience other than Prince, himself. At the conclusion of the show, Prince (Allen) summoned a special guest from years past, the great Morris Day (Earl Landry ll) to the stage. Day, a musician and songwriter known as the lead singer of The Time, sang a staple of the era “Jungle Love” which was written by Prince for Day.

This was quite a surprise for those in attendance. Day and Prince attended high school together in Minneapolis. In 1974 as teenagers, they became bandmates in the group called Grand Central. The band was managed by Day’s mother at the time.

The combination of shows allowed oneself to dive into a vibrant and electrifying experience when music, art and fun collide for an unforgettable encounter. As usual, ticket holders enjoyed a wonderful dinner provided by Ole Red and a firstclass show. 1999 The Legacy of Prince stated they would love to return for a bigger and better show at The Doghouse very soon.
