Oklahoma’s general election is steadily approaching. It will be held on November 8, 2022; this upcoming ballot contains many things the people of Oklahoma will be voting on. Some of the things that will be on the ballot in November are the elections for State Senate, State House, and the School Boards. Though not much has been discussed, keep an eye out for them on your November ballot.
One thing for sure is that the voters will elect one member to the U.S Senate in the general election, this election will fill the Class III Senate seat held by James Lankford, who first took office in 2015.
The election of the U.S HouseofRepresentativeswill be on the ballot as well. Voters will choose between five candidates in the U.S House, one from each of the state’s five U.S House districts.
There will also be a Congress Special Election vote to fill the rest of the six-year termthatJimInhofevacated. Inhofe announced his plan to resign effective January 3, 2023, in order to spend time with family.
Candidates Joy Hofmeister, NatalieBruno,andErvin Yen are running in the general election for Governor of Oklahoma.OklahomaGovernor Incumbent, Kevin Stitt, is running as a candidate as well.
Eight state executive offices are also up for election this November; Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Treasurer, Auditor, Superintendent of Public Instruction, Corporation Commissioner, Insurance Commissioner, and Labor Commissioner.
Oklahoma is one of two states with two courts of last resort. The Oklahoma Supreme Court is the court of last resort in the state for civil matters,whiletheOklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals is the court of last resort in the state for criminal matters. The terms of four supreme court justices will expire on January 8, 2023. All four seats are up for retention electiononNovember8,2022.
Oklahoma is one of 30 states holding elections for State Supreme Court. This year, 85 of the 344 seats on state supreme courts are up for election. The terms of five Oklahoma intermediate appellate court judges will expire on January 8, 2023. The five soon-to-be vacant seats will be voted on. The list of judges who will either stand for retention or remain on the bench are as follows: John Fischer, Thomas E. Prince, Stacie Hixon, Barbara G.Swinton,andGregory Blackwell. This list is subject to change if judges retire or are appointed.
To vote in Oklahoma, one must be at least 18 years old, a United States citizen, and a resident of Oklahoma. The deadline for registration is 25 days prior to the election, on October 14, 2022.
