Marshall County 4-H had 8 youth delegates participate in the 99th Annual 4-H Round Up, held virtually throughout the month of July. State 4-H Round Up has a steep history that allows club members to learn new things, showcase their talents, and recognize the achievements of their fellow 4-H’ers, and this year was no different, even with the unique circumstances.
During the Honors Night Assembly, the top three finalists in all of the project areas were introduced, and the state project winners were announced. State Record Book and scholarship winners, Key Club inductees, and National Congress winners were recognized during the Honor Night Assembly and walked away with over $100,000 in scholarships that will help them further their higher education.
During Honor Night, Hayden Harper, Colton Hunt, and Katherine Taylor were both recognized as one of the top three finalists in their project areas. Cole Stepp won in the state Safety Project, and Eli West won in the state Dog Project. Both Cole and Eli will receive $1,200 scholarships. Hayden Harper was also inducted into the 4-H Key Club. Key Club is an honor only extended to the top 4-H’ers, who possess leadership, loyalty, and a sense of responsibility to the total 4-H program. Oklahoma 4-H offers a variety of scholarships for graduating seniors and 4-H alumni. Marshall County 4-H alum Will Shelby received a $1,500 B.A. Pratt Memorial Scholarship.
In addition to contests and awards, Round Up serves as an opportunity to highlight the leadership achievements of 4-H’ers across the state. Kristen Chapa served as the Oklahoma 4-H State Vice President for 2019-2020, and Samantha Hunt served as the Southeast District 4-H Secretary this past year.
