Kingston residents voice concerns after confusion

The wording on a Kingston Town Council meeting agenda sparked a little bit of confusion among Kingston residents. It was stated that there would possibly be an executive session meeting to discuss the employment of Police Chief Kasey Cox, and officers Steve Miller, Ronald Johnston, Jones Jones, Eugene West, Brock Aguilar and Melissa Crus.

Residents were worried that the officers were leaving the Kingston Police Department due to the wording.

Cox said there was no cause to worry, he was on the agenda for a streamlined affect. It also needed to be worded that way due to state statutes.

“The mayor wanted to add me to the agenda for executive session so that way, I could speak to all five members at one time,” Cox said.

Cox said his phone was ringing off the hook from concerned citizens asking why he was listed on the agenda that way.

“I love that the community actually has my back and is much appreciated,” Cox said.

Cox said that there were a few issues, like every town has. They were able to “make a huge step forward” in clearing up some of the issues in the executive session.

Cox just celebrated his one-year anniversary as Kingston Police Chief and said there have been many improvements to the force.

“We have been able to double our income, crime rate has dropped,” Cox said. 'This fiscal year, we were able to budget for an extra officer to help keep the crime rate down.”

He said he was glad to see all the concern from the residents.

“There are good things coming to Kingston,” he said. “This chief is here to stay.'
